A New Visitor Tries His Luck 18th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Was it due to the “vacuum” created when Heidi went missing-in-action for half a day, or was it purely coincidental?
A new cat entered our house compound last night and made himself (I’m assuming he’s a he) very comfortable in the porch.
The surprising thing is that Ginger and Vincent just let him be and did not chase him out.
I heard some unusual noise in the porch and went out to look. The new cat looked a lot like Vincent but seemed to be lighter in colour. I’m n...

5 Bags For Fundraising 18th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Many thanks to ISKL Grade Two Team (15/16) for ordering 5 of our bags as gifts for parents of their school! Thank you very much for the kind donation of RM50 per bag!
The mustard-coloured upholstery cloth is donated by Janet.
The price of canvas has gone up considerably since last year and it is also very difficult to get supply nowadays, so we will make use of whatever that is donated to us. We do, however, have just enough canvas to make three more bags, and these three have been booked...

Heidi’s MIA Story (bearings Gone Wrong?) 17th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Heidi was accompanying me this morning, in her usual routine – at 5am, she will jump onto the bed and sleep with me until it’s time for breakfast.
Breakfast was as usual and after that, she followed me to the playground for morning exercise. She does this daily and as always, when I come back, she will not follow back. It’s Zurik who follows back. Heidi will remain at the playground to enjoy the quiet morning where she can watch the birds. And within a few minutes, she would b...

Your Dog’s “calming Signals” 16th May 2016, by AnimalCare
The full article is here.
Why it’s Important to Notice Your Dog’s Calming Signals
The term “calming signals” was coined by Norwegian canine ethologist Turid Rugaas.1 As she explained, dogs are incredibly perceptive and can be trained to respond to a whispered command. However, many owners believe a loud, firm voice must be used to show their dog who’s boss.
To your dog, this angry-sounding voice may elicit calming signals, which your dog may use to show you there&...

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the Buddhist Maha Vihara at Brickfields and especially to everyone who made the effort to come over to meet us and support our fundraising activity this morning!
Agnes and I both started the day at 5.30am. We had to get up to feed our respective cats and then, head down to Brickfields to beat the jam, get parking and start early. I had already packed the stock into the car the night before. Really loaded the car!
At the temple this morning, ...

Barefoot Experience On Cat Nutrition 14th May 2016, by AnimalCare
This article is not written by a vet; it’s a sharing of barefoot experience by a cat caregiver on how she dealt with a senior FIV+ cat who had diabetes and other issues, whom she had “inherited” from her late mother.
Can we feed raw food to an FIV+ cat? That was the question she was faced with and she finally found her answer, after caring for her inherited cat, Bob Dole.
She talks about how she learnt, over four phases, on what works not only for Bob Dole, but for her ow...

Another Rainbow Blanket 13th May 2016, by AnimalCare
We’ve done a few rainbow-coloured blankets in the past, and Ho Yuen Cheng requested for one. It was really fortuitous that recently, my mum was able to purchase many pieces of colourful small pieces of cloth from an ex-student of hers. So I was able to choose the rainbow-coloured pieces of cloth from there.
This is the finished blanket, measuring 58.5 in by 72 in. I sewed the top with the newly acquired cloth plus scraps from our stash while my mum sewed the backing....

Red Hello Kitty Blankie 13th May 2016, by AnimalCare
We would like to thank Ho Yuen Cheng, who resides in Sarawak, for her kind support of our work. Yuen Cheng chose this Hello Kitty cloth (from Ms Ooi’s cloth donation) and ordered this blanket.
Since the cloth is already so pretty as it is, there was no need to cut anything, and I only added a patchwork border on both sides.
This is a huge blanket that measures 62.5 in by 83 in.
I designed the top with the help of the Bird Family (!), sewed the borders and my mum sewed the backing. The b...

“Kitten Season” (all Year Round) 13th May 2016, by AnimalCare
Apparently, there is “kitten season” in the U.S. but over here, isn’t it all year round?
This article provides very useful information for those who might encounter a litter of kittens and are unsure of what to do.
Many people don’t realize cats are almost as prolific as rabbits when it comes to reproducing. An intact female cat can become pregnant at 5 months of age, and can have multiple litters a year. Each litter is typically 4 to 6 kittens, so just one mother ...
