Vincent, The Jungle Cat (for Today)
7th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

Today, the same thing happened again for breakfast. Ginger chased Vincent away. Sigh…I haven’t figured out how to stop Ginger from doing this yet. So, Vincent decided he’d hide in a bush instead of under the car. I placed his food (for this morning, it’s Monge, Primal and Go!) near the bench where he has eaten before, but he refused to come out, so if Vincent doesn’t go to food, food shall go to Vincent. And yes, he is eating!! Success! Vincent, the Jungle Cat&he...

Go, Vincent, Go!
6th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

Vincent got a surprise and a treat this afternoon. All the PatioCats came to the kitchen waiting for lunch. All, except Vincent. He was under my car in the porch. I had a feeling that perhaps Vincent is tired of the same food (even though I do vary the food for all three meals in a day). Just this afternoon, I got a packet of Go!, the new petfood that we are selling for fundraising (by donation). Vincent didn’t know about this (he thought lunch was going to be the “same old foo...

Why Do Children Do Such Things?
6th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

As you know, Mr Zurik follows me to the playground daily when I go there to do my exercise. This morning, I was a little late as I was coping with trying to get Vincent to eat. When I finally got Vincent to eat, I was already quite exhausted but I still didn’t want to miss the day’s exercise. So I got out of my gate and saw that Mr Zurik was standing in the middle of the road. A stick came flying at Mr Zurik and he avoided it. I looked up and there was a young boy in the playground....

Can Cats Eat If All Teeth Are Removed?
6th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

Feedback from cat owners whose cats had to have a full dental extraction: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/24203 2/will-my-cat-be-ok-if-his-teeth-are-removed Accor ding to one of the threads here, sometimes stomatitis could be an auto-immune problem. It’s just so hard to determine what Vincent’s problem is. For example, this morning, he wanted to eat, but Ginger chased him away. Then I could not find him. Later, he came back and I gently caged him with the food (already mixed with T...

Vincent’s Latest Treatment Plans
5th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

Three days ago, Vincent refused to eat…again. The nightmare is starting all over again – his stomatitis is back. We’ve tried many things for Vincent and looks like none of them seem to be able to solve the problem. I googled up on feline stomatitis and this site (http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/ archive/2012/02/06/dr-becker-discusses-feline-stom atitis.aspx) says: Sadly, the kindest option for treatment of advanced feline stomatitis is a full mouth extractio...

Cow’s Spraying Spree
5th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

Cow must be really, really happy that he is well (from that scary bout of FLUTD a few days ago). To show how happy he is, he’s been spraying a lot for us to see (that his urine is all clear)! I’m never going to complain about Cow’s spraying ever again! It is far better that he can spray than he cannot urinate at all. He’s happily eating his RC SO and it’s all good.

The “dog Pack” Myth (train With Rewards, Not With Pain)
4th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

The full article: http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff-nation/assig nments/should-dangerous-dog-breeds-be-banned/14915 115/The-dogs-are-pack-animals-myth I also don’t mind dogs walking first through doorways. I do like to teach them to wait first just so I can make sure there is nothing on the other side that could startle the dog and cause them to react. But once I deem it safe then, sure they can walk ahead. Unless they are an avid puller which then doesn’t allow the walk to be enjoyabl...

Lessons In Compassion From An Old Dog
4th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

The full story: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dogster/ how-an-old-dog-taught-me-_b_3369301.html The diversity of dogs you meet in this line of work surpasses the differences I’ve encountered among humans. It teaches you a lot about patience and compassion. Whether a dog’s quirks are the result of an owner’s neurosis or simply a personality trait of the canine, you can’t say, “Now, Miss Smith, the dog really does not need another vet visit, this is normal beh...

Gorgi’s Story (a Stray Dog Who Walked Into A Police Station)
4th Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

Here’s the whole story: http://www.hypedojo.com/a-stray-dog-wa lked-into-a-police-station-and-youll-never-guess It all started one afternoon last year, when a stray dog named Gorgi just showed up at a Puerto Rico Police command center in the city of Bayamon. The officers who were working there were amazed by how affectionate the stray dog was, in spite of hints that he didn’t have an easy past. “He was in poor condition, malnourished and with apparent signs of abuse,&r...

Plague Off For Vincent (the Ongoing Gum-Challenge)
3rd Jun 2016, by AnimalCare

With Cow on the mend, the focus is back to helping Vincent again. If you have been following Vincent’s stories, you’d know that I’m practically trying whatever I can to help him. Even the vet said to just try and let him know what works since gingivitis (or faucitis, stomatitis, periodontosis or whatever it’s called) can be a very hard-to-manage condition. In some cats, it resolves by itself. In some, with treatment, it gets better. In some, it’s just stubborn...
