Goodbye, Our Dearest Indy 2nd Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Indy passed away very peacefully at 6.55pm this evening.
I was with him almost two hours prior to his passing, and I was there with him all the way.
We would like to thank all dear friends who have been with us on Indy’s journey, especially his last lapse. Thank you very much for your very kind wishes and positive thoughts. Thank you for being there for us.
Indy was very strong and stoic all the way, never wavering at all. He lived true to the name I gave him when we rescued him at 2 weeks...

The Selangor State Exco Says It Will Review Its Catch-And-Kill Approach 2nd Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
The link was shared with us: https://www.facebook.com/share/K2PxGZP6pHiSfjHr/?
We hope the state government will read the comments from the ordinary folks in both this Facebook link and the MalaysiaKini link so that they know what the people want.
As so many of the comments say, animal lovers and organisations have been appealing for years and years but nobody in power listens. Now, you issue a statement because there is again, another royal rebuke. Well, it’s about time, isn’t it?

Rey Causes Havoc…from The Other Side Of Stargate 2nd Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I didn’t have my phone with me when I caught Rey having climbed all the way up to the top of Stargate to disturb Indra this morning after breakfast. He had climbed up from his side, just using his claws to hang on to the gate without any platform to rest on.
By the time I got my phone, he had already come down but had already created so much unrest among the Blondies.
Indra has been trying to find a way to get across to Ginger’s Catio since last night.

Indy’s Morning 2nd Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I restarted Indy on whatever he was willing to take – Azodyl, Amlodipine and a little bit of Hill’s KD canned food.
He does like the Japanese milk too so I’m giving him that, and only as much as he is willing to take.
I was very careful with giving only tiny bits of Hill’s KD because of the vomiting two days ago. So far, it’s almost three hours now, there has been no vomiting.
I was already up at 3.30am this morning to check on him. That’s when I gave him the...

More On The MBSA Planned Dog Catching 2nd Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
TheStar summarises the whole fiasco here: https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2024/04/01/ tengku-permaisuri-selangor-speaks-out-against-mbsa 039s-planned-stray-hunt
After MBSA’s initial plan drew flak from animal lovers, it claimed that its operation involved PAWS. When PAWS asserted that they were never informed about it nor will they ever agree to such an operation, now MBSA claims that it was just using a “scare tactic” on its residents: https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com...

Near-Midnight Check On Indy 1st Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I managed to feed Indy a very small dinner of the Japanese milk.
Ming-Yi dropped by after work to visit him too.
He’s been hiding under the bed, which has been his favourite spot for quite long now. To get to him, I need to remove one of the tunnels and go from the back, which is just a narrow space between the bed and the wall.
I also found Indy sitting down on his back legs with his front legs up just now, which is an achievement.
I had not given him any food yesterday after coming back...

Jayden Visits Indy And Ginger 1st Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Jia-Wen brought Jayden over to visit Indy today.
I have not seen Jayden for so many days now.
Hi Indy!
Jayden is helping me with Indy’s feeding.
Jayden played with Ginger too.
And later, with Riley too.
Meanwhile, Indy’s vet texted to ask about him and I told her the details. Based on Indy’s condition and blood test results yesterday, it was unlikely for him to have pulled through yesterday, but here he is today. So the vet will provide the Ranitidine jabs for two more days...

Indy, As Stoic As Ever And Reflections On Life 1st Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I slept next to Indy last night.
In the middle of the night, he came out from the carrier and sat on the floor. He looked “well”. I gave him some water by syringe too and he did not reject it. At this stage, it’s all about how well I can “read” what Indy wants. It’s not easy, but I try my best. I know from my limited experience in caring for end-stage animals that once they reject food, we must not force it on them.
By morning, he had gone under the bed to his...

Indy Is Alert And Drinks Japanese Milk 31st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Indy is getting more alert.
I gave him another dose of Sucralfate (it is to coat the stomach to patch up any bleeds) and decided to try some Glucolin water. I was surprised that he didn’t mind it at all.
So I tried some Japanese milk and Indy didn’t object, he swallowed all of it, given bit by bit. It was very little as I didn’t want to push it. But if he doesn’t protest, at least that’s some food for him.
I will play it by ear. That’s all I can do now. If he ...

Indy Wakes Up From The Morphine 31st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Indy was given a small dose of morphine at the vet’s so that he could sleep comfortably under sedation.
After about five hours, Indy woke up!
The oxygen concentrator arrived at 3pm, earlier than expected. The delivery man was so kind, he rushed it over. Ming-Yi and I immediately installed it and we could see it helped Indy take deeper breaths.
Indy woke up from the sedation!
Ming-Yi and I managed to transfer Indy over to a bigger carrier. The carrier is good as he would feel safe and it...

Keeping Vigil Beside Indy 31st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
The Blondies and I are keeping vigil beside Indy now.
Indy is sleeping quietly. His breathing is regular and not laboured at all.
He is at peace.
This probably did not happen suddenly. But Indy showed absolutely no signs. However, at Stage 4 CKD, there really is nothing more we could do.
I requested enough painkillers to keep him as comfortable as possible. The vet had also given him something to stop the vomiting (Ranitidine and Maropitant).
He is sleeping very peacefully now.
The vet says we ...

Indy’s Sudden Downturn 31st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Indy suddenly vomited blood this morning.
He wasn’t happy with breakfast and subcut. After that, he vomited blood three times.
I rushed him to the vet’s. His kidney readings are all off the roof and he is very, very anaemic, with an HCT reading of only 6.4%, which is the lowest I’ve ever seen in any cat so far.
And yet, Indy surprised the vet by standing up and showing absolutely no signs of weakness. But his gums are very, very pale. And the vomiting of blood is due to very hi...

Thank You Very Much (March 2024 Donors) 31st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
The claims are picking up this month and that’s a good sign.
However, we would just like to gently remind all applicants to please read the policies in its entirety before making an application so that there are no misunderstandings later on. We would also be very grateful if all applicants would understand that we appreciate honesty from everyone. It is always best to just tell the truth instead of attempting to mask it, because at the end of the day, the truth always comes out. We did ha...

Please Do Not Kill Off Street Dogs, MBSA 30th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
We read with grave concern, the decision and plans of the MBSA council: https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/nation/ 2024/03/30/dont-kill-off-stray-dogs-group-pleads-w ith-city-council/
We strongly appeal to MBSA to reconsider their plans and opt for neutering and returning to colony under the care of feeders in the area.
Street dogs are only there because they have no where else to go. Some of them are abandoned pets or offspring of abandoned pets. Some could be lost pets who have run out...

Putin Was Lost For Three Weeks (but Is Now Safely Home) 30th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Ref: https://animalcare.my/2024/03/29/putins-updates-th e-formerly-scrawny-fip-cat-treated-with-molnupirav ir/
Putin is not only an FIP survivor (using the human-grade drug, Molnupiravir), his owner told me that Putin was lost for THREE whole weeks recently. Luckily she has a cat chat group with the surrounding residents and she sent out the alert. A kind resident found Putin in a different apartment area, rescued him and reunited him with his owner!
We need the help and collaboration of kind p...

The Blondies, After The War 29th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
I guess the war made them hungry.
Only Indra was too busy to eat this morning. Later, I managed to make her eat canned food (well, at least it’s wet food and not kibble). So now, two Blondies know how to eat canned food – Kai and Indra.
A well-deserved rest after the big war this morning.
Samantha still on guard while her daughters sleep.
I’m glad Samantha is now a responsible mother. She still cares of her daughters now that they are all more than one year old. She started ...

Indy Wants To Be Fed? 29th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Indy shows interest in food, but I think he wants to be fed.
I’ll just continue to feed him three times a day if that’s what he wants.
He’s otherwise very alert.
The post Indy wants to be fed? appeared first on AnimalCare.

The Blondie Army Vs Rey 29th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
This morning, there was a horrendous earth-shattering shrieking war at Stargate.
When I rushed out to check, it was Rey.
He had scaled up Stargate, with four sets of claws clutching onto the netting, waging a war with Samantha who was on the platform over on her side.
I quickly stopped the war before it woke the neighbours and Rey fell (yes, he fell) from his clutches and landed safely on all fours (it’s a piece of cake, no biggie) on the ground.
This was after I ended the war.
The naugh...
