A New Protocol For Tabs And Minnie’s 2nd Phantom Of The Opera Saga 16th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I texted the vet yesterday as I was concerned about Tabs’ high urea.
So, after some discussion, we have a new treatment protocol for her now.
It’s 150ml daily subcut fluids for 3 weeks foll0wed by a check-up.
Also, I can give her the remaining Azodyl from Indy and/or double up her Renal-Combi.
Meanwhile, I’m quite surprised that the presence of Gerald and Misty yesterday did not seem to cause too much stress for Tabs. She didn’t go hide upstairs. She only stayed up on th...

The Morning After The Night Of Terror (the Finale Of The Reptilian Encounter) 16th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
The short version: The cobra has been caught by our chief of security (bless him with everything’s that good in life) from our garden and Bomba has taken it away. Nobody died.
The long version:
This morning was pandemonium in the house. The Monsters had sprayed all over both bedrooms, and on the cushioned bed headboards too. They were all too restless.
Last night, I barely slept too, kept waking up to check the front door. It seemed unlikely if anything could slide in, but you’...

A Night Of Terror (Part 3) 16th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Finally…Minnie is in the house! My raffia string worked.
I think it would be impossible to put her with the boys tonight. So I will just let her be.
At long last, she’s safe!
All 14 cats are inside the house now.
I don’t think I can sleep, though.

A Night Of Terror (Part 2) 15th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I heard some noise in the Catio, so I immediately got Ginger and the Monsters into the house. They all looked scared with their tail down so it wasn’t difficult to get them in.
Everyone came in except Lynx and Rey. In the course of trying to get Lynx and Rey, Minnie escaped back to the catio. Sigh.
I finally got all the boys in except Minnie. She was still in the catio.
I also got all the Blondies into the room and closed the wooden door and window. They are now safe inside Bunny’s R...

A Night Of Terror 15th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Late afternoon today, we were alerted to a commotion right outside our house.
It was the next-door neighbour and she said a lorry driver had passed by and told her a cat (it was Misty, we found out later) was chasing a cobra away in front of her house. It was a big one, the driver said.
The moment I heard that, I quickly grabbed Gerald and brought him into the house and coaxed Misty to come in as well. Luckily, she obliged.
I got both into the house. Safe.
The driver said both cobra and cat were...

Further Reflections On Tabs And Ginger’s CKD 14th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I needed some time to reflect on Tabs and Ginger’s CKD condition after today’s check-up.
I guess with the loss of Cow Mau to heart failure (not CKD) and Indy to CKD, I’m still not in the clearest of mind.
There is nothing that will stop the progression of CKD. It is such a terrible condition. The stem cell therapy, if it works, can only slow it down, but not stop it entirely.
I believe it did work for Tabs and Ginger, but why am I not rejoicing? Maybe I know all we are going is...

Jayden And Riley 14th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
https://animalcare.my/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/W hatsApp-Video-2024-04-14-at-11.40.02-AM.mp4
Jayden came over today and when he saw Riley, he remarked, “Only one cat”. Tabs had gone upstairs to hide, as usual, so it was just Riley being downstairs.
I think Jayden misses Cow Mau and Indy. Jayden would usually hug them both whenever he came. In fact, when Cow Mau passed away, Jayden came and he called out for Cow Mau for a few days. I could only tell him that “Cow Mau isn&rsquo...

Phew…luckily It’s Not A “forever Boycott”!! 14th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I’m talking about Indra’s Projek Makan here.
Yesterday, I managed to get Indra to eat a hearty meal of raw food for dinner. Wow! So lucky!
Nasib baik bukan boikot….
I didn’t even dare move a muscle when she was eating, because the slightest distraction can make her stop and run away. So I stayed, as still as a statue until she finished.
Hooray! Bukan boikot buat selama-lamanya.
So it looks like she will still eat raw food after a few days of intermittent boycott. O...

Tabs To The Vet’s For 1st Check-Up After Stem Cell Therapy 14th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Now, about Tabs.
Tabs’ reading shows a slight progression.
This is not surprising because Tabs has PKD on top of the CKD. Or to be more accurate, the PKD is causing the CKD.
Her SDMA has increased from 12 to 14 (borderline). But the creatinine has remained the same, which is good.
Her urea, however, shot up to 16.6 and the vet thinks it’s because she isn’t drinking enough water. But then again, Tabs has always had a history of high urea whenever she visits the vet. She is a sca...

Ginger To The Vet’s For 1st Check-Up After Stem Cell Therapy 14th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I took Ginger and Tabs to the vet’s today for their first check-up after the stem cell therapy which was done on 5th January 2024.
I have been losing sleep over this. I know, unnecessarily, but I have been so anxious about it.
Indy was supposed to go today too, but he didn’t make it. The vet already said that the stem cell therapy cannot possibly do much for Indy, but she agreed to give him a chance because he showed no symptoms of CKD; just that the readings were sky-high.
I shall w...

The AIM Food Feeding Continues 14th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
This morning was a lucky morning.
Tabs has not eaten Cubgrub for many days now. And I didn’t know how to make/entice/coax her to eat it.
So I tried something rather risky today. She likes the AIM supplement, so I mixed the AIM supplement into a fair amount of Cubgrub and offered it to her. Even as I was doing it, I wasn’t sure if it would work, but I figured if Tabs won’t eat it, surely Ginger would, right? And it wouldn’t be wasted.
If there is one thing I will always re...

The Cyberjaya Cat Park (Sepang Municipal Council) 13th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Kudos to the Sepang Municipal Council for keeping the Cyberjaya Cat Park running well!
The news: https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2024/04/12/ stray-cats-in-sepang-living-a-charmed-life
The park only takes in street cats, not those surrendered by people.
Can other municipal councils consider setting up such parks for dogs and cats too?
While ideally, CNRM is the most compassionate way to control the street animals population (returning neutered animals to their colony and looking after them...

Serai For Everyone 13th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
No edible plants can grow in Ginger’s Catio. I think the reason is the lack of sunshine as it faces south and is quite shaded. Or we just do not have green fingers. Or the Monsters spray urine on the plants. Take your pick.
We have tried growing serai for them, but the plants always die. Even the Pogonatherum (Heidi’s grass) also dies, and that’s a weed.
So we bought a serai plant today and the nursery lady suggested we put the potted plant in our porch where it faces east and ...

Projek Makan For Indra 13th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I think I’ve more or less succeeded in getting Samantha, Akira and Kai to eat proper meals.
The one left now is Indra.
I weighed her yesterday and her weight is fine, it’s about 4.6kg. But it’s been so difficult to get her to eat proper meals. She only wants snacks.
It makes little sense to me that they were all brought up on raw food, so why are they rejecting it now? At least, Indra is. How did they decide they want to eat highly-processed foods and not the food that is biolo...

What Happened, Smurfy? 13th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, Ginger and Smurfy were embroiled in a locked-body fight. Luckily only fur flew, there was no bloodshed and nobody sustained any injuries.
Gone are the days where our warriors fought and every fight would result in a mandatory trip to the vet’s, treatment (sometimes even surgeries), medication and the works. Our warriors are all gone now. I don’t miss the fights, but I sure miss them. So much.
This morning, Smurfy refused to eat with the rest of the clan. He just went away ...

Which AIM Food Does Tabs Like? 13th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
After trying all the three types, choosy Tabs only likes the AIM supplement.
The only way to make her eat is to mix the powdered supplement with her Cindy’s pureed food.
https://animalcare.my/wp-content/uploads/202 4/04/2-v-2.mp4
The AIM food is so, so precious to me because you can only buy it from Japan now, so I’m not wasting even a drop of it. Whatever Tabs doesn’t finish, luckily Ginger will sapu habis.
Ginger, on the other hand, eats all the AIM foods (kibble, sup...

Misty Visits 12th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
We came back from lunner (this is a meal taken between lunch and dinner) and Misty was sitting most comfortably on the bench.
But there were some bird feathers right there, in front of our front door.
Again, Misty??
This time, it was just a few feathers, but it’s bad enough, isn’t it?
Sigh….what did you do again, Misty?
I know Misty can climb trees. I know hunting is a natural instinct of the female cat. It’s hard to change nature.
Even Rosie and Daffodil hunted last tim...

Gerald Visits Again 12th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
It didn’t take long for Gerald to come back to the porch after his sojourn to various other places in the neighbourhood after Projek Misty this morning.
I’m going to make it a point to invite him in every time he comes to our porch.
Sila masuk, Gerald.
But this can only be done if Riley isn’t around. Otherwise, an open door is an open invitation for Riley to sneak out.
https://animalcare.my/wp-content/uploads/2024 /04/2-v-1.mp4
I carried him to Bunny’s Place where every...

Getting Tabs Back To Normal 12th Apr 2024, by AnimalCare
I know this morning’s Projek Misty must have caused some undue stress to Tabs.
She was either on the table or the top of the piano when Misty was in the house.
Her thrice-weekly subcut fluids.
After the subcut, I usually place pressure on where I have poked. Because I use the 18G needle, sometimes, there is some bleeding. This is especially so because Tabs is on fish oil which thins the blood. It used to happen with Indy and Cow Mau too. Cow Mau was on blood thinners for his heart. Indy,...
