Our Final Farewell To Rosie (on Wesak Day) 10th May 2017, by AnimalCare
We chose today to inter Rosie’s ashes to her favourite place at the playground – at her tree.
There will always be flowers for Rosie.
Among the hundreds of photos we have, here are some…
18th October 2012 – the very, very first time Rosie stepped into our house.
And later…
Rosie brought her whole family to our house.
She had the freedom to come and go, and she constantly went back to her tree.
It was her favourite place at the playground.
Rosie, you will...

Post-Polycarbonate News (Daffodil And The PatioCats) 9th May 2017, by AnimalCare
It’s been three days since I “raised the bar” and so far, Daffodil has not escaped.
This morning, I did not hear any sound of the polycarb hitting against the gate, so I assume Daffodil has not tried again.
She also did not go to Stargate2 to look (longingly or otherwise).
Our worry was (and still is) that Daffodil is already 17 years old and all this climbing and jumping (and failing to jump) isn’t good for her age. So we dearly hope she will stop trying and just be hap...

Daffodil’s Story Continues… 8th May 2017, by AnimalCare
After yesterday’s unsuccessful jump (evidenced only by the sound I heard and Daffodil being at Stargate2), Daffodil went upstairs and slept for hours.
I guess it tires her out a lot, so really, we are very keen to stop her from jumping. But how?
Hopefully, she will quickly learn that she should not jump anymore.
If any of the PatioCats wants to go out to the porch or even to the playground, we will take them, under supervision, but the only problem is, it’s difficult to get them bac...

27 Batik Tote Bags (fundraising) 7th May 2017, by AnimalCare
We would like to thank Mr Ooi In Haw (once again!) for his kind donation of RM705 for these 27 tote bags.
The request was to maximise all cloth to the approximate small, medium or large sizes, so you will notice that the sizes differ a little and the orientation too. No cloth is wasted!!
These 27 bags were sewn by my mum and me.
Two medium light blue. Cloth donated by my mum.
Three small red batik. The one on the top left is a bit smaller (optimising the cloth).
Four medium.
Two large.

I Raised The Bar (Daffodil’s Story Continues) 7th May 2017, by AnimalCare
We came home and invited Daffodil into the house. She was in the porch and after some persuasion, she came in.
I raised the polycarbonate sheets to the highest possible level, but still using the S-hooks.
I do know that using S-hooks isn’t going to be a permanent solution. There would be a gap above the S-hooks and she can still heave herself up, but let’s just try, shall we?
In no time, I guess Daffodil went out again.
I was in the room, typing the previous post and I heard th...

“Piece Of Cake, You Dumb Humans” (Daffodil Wins Again) 7th May 2017, by AnimalCare
The story continues…
So, we all came down for breakfast at about 4.30am.
I only started serving food at 5.30am. Zurik was waiting obediently right outside Stargate2 (he’s been really good these days, that’s because he cannot come in to beat someone up). He lives in the porch and loves the shoe rack.
Daffodil ate with everyone and all seemed well until….
…she took a walk out to the patio.
I was watching, but without a phone or a camera.
She went towards Stargate2...

Daffodil Concedes…? 7th May 2017, by AnimalCare
So Daffodil slept soundly upstairs while we put up the polycarbonate sheets.
Without even watching, she knew what was going on (how DOES a cat do that?), so she decided not to waste her time or energy to do anything.
Just slept.
Then, she came down (after it was all done), and settled contentedly in the house.
She ate with everyone.
Groomed Ginger, let Ginger groom her.
Happiness.
She did come out to have a look at night, but only a very, very brief look, barely even tilting her head.
Can&...

The Polycarbonate Sheets 6th May 2017, by AnimalCare
It’s finally ready….and we installed it ourselves.
It’s up!!
We just used S-hooks to hook the two sheets up.
It’s 38cm in height and can be adjusted according to Daffodil’s reach. At the moment, it’s somewhere four-fifths’ way up.
However…
When I measured the width, I had forgotten to take into account that someone as smart and resourceful as Daffodil can also use these bolts as tiny stepping stones. Pole did that 6 years ago. I hadn&rsqu...

Ginger And Heidi’s Morning Out 6th May 2017, by AnimalCare
We decided to let Ginger and Heidi out to the playground under supervision this morning.
But when it was time to go home, there was a bit of a problem…
They decided the neighbour’s unoccupied (being renovated) house was more interesting because there are buckets, planks and lots of equipment to explore.
Mr Zurik, safe in the porch.
He is very well-trained in guerilla warfare. He has perfected the art of hiding from my husband’s line of sight.
Finally, got them back.

The Dowager Softens…a Little 5th May 2017, by AnimalCare
I wonder if Daffodil read my mind…because this morning, she seemed to have relaxed a lot on her defiance.
Of course she went out last night, as expected.
But she came back on her own, had breakfast with everyone and would you believe it, she brought Ginger upstairs to the bedroom and both waited outside the bathroom door for me.
Of course I praised her and told her she could live upstairs again. Yes, please do.
And as though he could read Daffodil’s mind, Vincent graciously m...
