Urko: Surviving Sporotrichosis
9th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

One of our readers wrote to us about two months back enquiring about a sporo-cat, Urko. We encouraged her to get Urko treated and here are some updates and photos. We are really glad to know that Urko is showing good signs of improvement and recovery now. The first email on 17th May 2017: Just recently we found this little black kitty in my cats` enclosure – managed somehow – don`t know how. My cats remained ok. About to do de-flea and noticed a nodule blocking one nostril.  S...

Cubgrub – Homemade BARF For Cats And Dogs!
7th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

I came across Cubgrub recently. It is homemade BARF for cats (and soon, for dogs too!). The cat food is based on Dr Lisa Pierson’s renowned and trusted recipe! And what’s most important for me, is that it uses antibiotic-residue free chicken. And it’s a homegrown home business run personally by Ms Chong Lin Li, who is based in Petaling Jaya. She prepares the food herself. Lin Li has a hospitality (commercial cookery) certificate from Queensland, Australia and has worked as a k...

Python Alert In SS14 Subang Jaya
6th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

Note: There are no pictures in this post. We must apologise for not writing this earlier. I thought that since the news was all over SS14, most residents would have known until I mentioned it to a friend (who resides in SS14) yesterday and she didn’t know about it at all. And she’s a cat feeder too. So, this news has to be published now, for the benefit of SS14 and perhaps the neighbouring areas as well. A python was spotted crossing the main road from SS18 to SS14 early morning a f...

No Postal Delivery For Two Days Now
4th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

For some strange reason, there has been no postal delivery for two days now. I do wonder if it’s because the shop (our collection point) is closed and the postman has decided to keep all mails until the shop re-opens. I certainly hope that is not the case. Previously, even when the shop was closed, all Pos Ekspres mails were delivered to the mailbox and I could still collect them daily. There has never been a day where we don’t receive applications, so this phenomenon is out of the ...

The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side
4th Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

Are they actually saying, “How we wish we could go in…” Looks like it, doesn’t it? Heidi is also “here”, but is not in the photo. She’s watching from the kitchen. By the way, Heidi made an escape today and went to the neighbour’s. Luckily a shake of the kibble jar got her running back.

Cats Have And Will Defy Domestication
3rd Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

The article: https://arstechnica.com/science/2017 /06/cats-are-an-extreme-outlier-among-domestic-ani mals/?_utm_source=1-2-2 After tens of thousands of years of having cats live with us, the “domestic cat” is still identical to its wild counterpart, physically and genetically. Cats have and will continue to defy domestication. And one day, they will rule us all. Or, have they already?

Daffodil’s Small Meals
3rd Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

Eating with the whole gang. Daffodil asks for small meals very often now, but each time she eats, I have to fend off Heidi and sometimes, Ginger. Heidi is the most difficult because she is a very persistent stalker. Ultimately, when Daffodil eats, the rest get a bit too. This is getting to be a habit now…

Ginger’s Trip To Bunny’s Place
3rd Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

As always (and forever more), Ginger regards Bunny Place as a paradise for all cats. So, he comes in very often these days. Relaxing in Bunny’s Room. A rare sight indeed. But it won’t be so rare these days as Cow has really mellowed. Ginger is careful. Wow! That is a bit too close for comfort! Ginger should be awarded a medal for the utmost bravery and courage. Bunny “looks”. Actually, Bunny is 80% blind and cannot see, but he can certainly smell. Cow may have mello...

Sleeping Portraits
3rd Jul 2017, by AnimalCare

Indy on the piano. Ginger Tiger in his tv rack. Indy and Tiger in a two-tiered piano position – very rare. More of Ginger. Still more of Ginger. Tiger was seizure-free for 48 hours (and the vet and I were keeping our fingers crossed) but today, he threw one fit and another cluster fit (three consecutively, with short pauses in between).

Tiger’s Seizures (a Running Commentary)
30th Jun 2017, by AnimalCare

I had another discussion with Tiger’s sporo vet again this morning. The vet thinks perhaps Tiger is mentally stressed and that is why he is holed up in the tv rack all day. This made sense, of course, but we don’t know why he might be mentally stressed. No one bullies him in the house and no cat goes near him too. Occasionally Tabs drops by to say hello by way of sniffing and that’s about it. Then, Tiger’s (new) vet had told me to try and look for triggers to the seizure...
