Farewell, Dearest Daffodil 12th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Our dearest Daffodil passed away peacefully this morning, at about 7am.
Much as it is very painful to lose a beloved family member, we are seeking comfort in the fact that Daffodil was happy and comfortable until the very end. As her vet said (when I informed him this morning), Daffodil didn’t seem to be in pain at all, despite her illness. Still so happy and healthy when he last saw her on Sunday.
Her passing was also very peaceful.
The only sign of her deterioration was yesterday when ...

Daffodil’s Little Up-And-Down Moments 11th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
We took Daffodil to the vet yesterday.
She hadn’t been looking or feeling that good for the past few days. There has been some weight loss as well (300 grams over a few weeks). She is only 2.5kg now. Her weight used to be 2.8kg.
I was very worried the past few days too. She seemed to be deteriorating. Two days ago, she vomited her food and then, refused to eat for half a day. Thank goodness, she felt better by evening and she started eating again.
Yesterday, both vets examined Daffo...

What’s Up, Mr Zurik? 11th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Today, I saw Mr Zurik entertaining one of the new cats in our porch!
Yes, it’s one of those cats from a neighbouring house who has been trying to join our porch community (which currently, only consists of one Mr Zurik). This cat has a blue collar too.
Mr Zurik was chatting with the cat and when I drove in, the cat ran off.
Hey, Mr Z.
I think his “other” food source is available again now. He just takes courtesy meals and isn’t hungry. But he’s here at our porch ...

“Real” Patchwork Pieces (“potpourri”) 6th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
I’m back in sewing mode again and this time, we’ll be doing “real” patchwork pieces, making use of remnant cloth to create covers and blankets (made to order).
Last time, our patchwork pieces were made with specially bought/donated cloth so each one had designs, but this time, let’s do “real” patchwork of using remnant cloth in line with the practice of not wasting resources.
We do have quite a bit of remnant cloth from the shopping bags.
This is a pie...

Is Mr Zurik Back For Good? 6th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Ever since coming back, Mr Zurik appears to be back for good now.
We can only think of these possibilities:
He tried out a new home, but prefers to come back to us. So, he’s back for good.
He likes his new home, but his adopters went back for Hari Raya and are not back home yet, so he came back to us.
During the few days that he disappeared, he had some “issue” to settle somewhere, but now he is back for good.
Of course we will never know which it is, but as long as he...

Foldable Bags As Gifts To The Orphanage (fundraising) 3rd Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
We would like to thank our anonymous donor and long-time supporter for her kind donation of RM400 for these small foldable bags. They will be gifted to orphans for Christmas later this year!
These are meaningful and useful gifts – to educate the young on using cloth bags instead of plastic ones. And of course, the street animals benefit directly from our neutering aid and the environment and marine animals benefit on the long-term – thanks to not using plastic!
All home-sewn, with l...

Tabs Vs Heidi 1st Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
The hierarchy is changing…
Yesterday, Tabs chased Heidi all the way out from the house to the patio and then, engaged in a posturing war with the matriarch!
Never in my wildest dream would I have dreamt that baby-faced Tabs would take an alpha role…. Wow!!
Jia-Wen caught it all on camera and made captions:
Heidi had to quickly run for shelter.
Wow!!!

Mr Zurik’s Midnight Visit! 1st Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
At 11pm last night, just when I was about to go upstairs to sleep, I heard a familiar “mew” at the bench (which is Mr Zurik’s bench, located just outside the window).
It was Mr Zurik!!!
Hello, Mr Zurik!!!!
I offered food and this time, he ate A LOT!
6 helpings of kibble and 3 helpings of Cubgrub!
After eating, he didn’t seem to want to go “back” anywhere this time.
He stayed in our compound and rubbed himself all over my legs.
Perhaps his new (or old?) f...
