Neutering Aid For 1 Cat And 1 Dog In Klang (Mary Oh Sim Poh & Ree Oh Sim Choo’s) 26th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
We have sponsored RM160 for the neutering of this cat and dog.
Dear Dr Chan
We have sent one homeless female cat, Amber and one rescued female dog,
Kylie for spaying at the vet’s.
Attached are collage pictures of them before and after the surgery.
Ms. Amber is joining the rest of the office cats in Klang. As for Ms. Kylie, we
have to board her at the vet’s until she is adopted.
We hope to seek Animal Care Society’s neutering aid assistance for them.
Thank you
Sincerely,

A Red Potpourri Blanket (fundraising) 26th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
We would like to thank our reader and ardent FB follower, Ms Iza, for her very generous contribution of RM350 to our Fund for this red potpourri blanket.
This blanket is made out of small pieces of reds, orange, yellow and related shades. It has a border of strawberry motives.
It took me more than a week to complete it. But I had great fun sewing it.
We can create beauty from chaos and randomness!
The backing is this sweet pink Hello Kitty cloth contributed by Ms Ooi. It is quality and ...

Tiger’s News 26th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Tiger’s seizures averages at one per day.
But he seems reasonably happy and social.
No need to be holed up in his tv rack.
By the way, that’s Lion, Tiger’s toy and companion when he first came as a little kitten. Tiger was smaller than Lion at the time.
Here’s a picture, from 11 years ago:
And some other baby pictures:
With Bobby.
With Cow.
They were only about 2-3 months apart. Look at the size difference!
With Mac.
Cow took Tiger under his wing and taught him h...

Ginger, The New Bully And Super Alpha 26th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Ginger is now fast becoming a bully and super alpha.
Of course, he had been bullying Vincent all his life, but now, he is bullying Tabs as well.
This morning, he took over Heidi’s paper bag on the kitchen island and Heidi was clearly disturbed.
He went inside Heidi’s paper bag and then, sat on the kitchen island.
Heidi: But that’s my home!
It’s not fair!!
Is this the face of a bully?
Nowadays, every morning, he demands to go out of Stargate2 to meet his buddy, Mr Zur...

Indy, Why Are You “rusting”? 26th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
A few days ago, I noticed Indy’s fur turning reddish brown. It’s exactly like the colour of humans who have had their hair dyed black and it’s wearing off.
A quick check over at the internet reveals that it’s called “rusting” and it does happen to cats with black fur. There are several causes, ranging from aging, over exposure to the sun (well, yes to both as Indy is 9 years old now and he does like to sit in the sun) as well as the more alarming kidney, live...

The Butterflies Came 24th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
I had been waiting patiently for a sign.
And finally, the first butterfly came yesterday.
It was noon and I was out at the vegetables pot to get some greens for lunch. As I approached the pots, a very small white butterfly flitted happily over the plants. I stood and watched the little white butterfly. It was small and dainty, the size of a jasmine flower.
Small and dainty, just like Daffodil.
The butterfly flew into Stargate2, then out again and was there for a few minutes, dancing happily and...

Managing Campus Cats 23rd Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Below is a news article shared by Dr Veeranoot, who is now back home in Thailand. Dr Veeranoot has indeed laid the foundation for animal kindness during her tenure as an associate professor in Universiti Malaya. It is heartening to see her efforts being continued by her colleagues now.
Again, we look forward to the day when humans finally understand and embrace the idea of living harmoniously with community animals. They are only with us because our long-time ancestors invited them into their l...

The Bag Story Continues… 20th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Horror of horrors!!
Our part-time cleaner threw away Heidi’s paper bag two days ago and yesterday, Heidi was without her bag!
She sat down very miserably on the kitchen island and I discovered her paper bag, soiled, in our paper recycle bin.
Oh dear….so I had to find her a new paper bag.
Heidi seemed quite happy with it.
Slept for hours in it too.
She liked it so much, she was even willing to forgo food for it.
What about me, then?
Okay, Tabs…how about this pretty...

Be A Lab Animal Defender, Urge L’Oreal To Stop Animal Testing 20th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
A message from HSI:
L’Oréal claims it “no longer tests its ingredients on animals and no longer tolerates any exception to this rule.”
…Then why does L’Oréal sell its products in China, where animal testing is still a common requirement for most types of cosmetics?
…And why isn’t L’Oréal supporting efforts to secure laws to ban cosmetic animal testing completely?
While L’Oréal sits on the fence, hundreds ...

Tiger’s Seizures Restarted 19th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Tiger was seizure-free for about 2 weeks, then the seizures started again. It was actually during his treatment for the wounds (while he was on antibiotics) that the seizures stopped. That’s a strange, if it’s not coincidental. Maybe he has some underlying infectious disease that causes the seizures and the antibiotics addressed that.
We cannot be sure.
Meanwhile, we will just monitor him. He is still on prochlorperazine, which is Plan A. We have not progressed to Plans B and C yet,...

It’s All About Bags And Baskets 19th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
Our “bag lady” still loves her paper bag on the kitchen island.
And while Heidi has her paper bag, Tabs is very happy with her basket.
But what happens when Heidi takes over Tab’s basket…
I don’t have a basket anymore…sobs.
It’s okay, Tabs. You have all this cloth!
This is MINE!!
That’s Heidi up there.
We don’t really know how old Heidi is, but according to the vet in July 2013 (that’s when she marched into our house and settl...

Some Reflections 19th Sep 2017, by AnimalCare
For the last one week, ever since we were informed that the Selangor Neutering Subsidy (SENS) is open to all Selangorians (those who have a Selangor address on their IC’s), we have been gradually informing our many Selangor regular applicants that they are now eligible to apply for the Selangor government funds.
The criteria for eligibility are (1) Selangor address (2) Selangor vet.
Surprisingly, though, none of our applicants seemed to be aware that they are eligible to apply.
So f...
