Socks Visits 18th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Gerald wasn’t here in the porch this afternoon, so guess who visited?
It’s Socks! From the Rumah Kucing down the road.
Misty is eating and Socks approaches.
Oh I see…Socks knows where the bowls are!
We were leaving the house when Socks came, so I went back in to get her another bowl of food after that.
If Misty and Socks can be friends, that would be nice, wouldn’t it?
Socks is a very gentle cat.
This is how it works in the community. When there is a vacuum, another ...

Novel Protein Day For The Blondies! 18th May 2024, by AnimalCare
It’s called a “novel protein” because it is, well, “novel”, ie. used occasionally.
A cat’s natural food in the wild is rodent and bird. Many websites highly recommend rabbit (rodent) meat for cats. I know, I know, it’s sad. But this is a very imperfect world where there are carnivores and omnivores and they have to eat meat.
Cats are obligate carnivores so their diet is 98% meat.
When Indy had this persistent bloody diarrhoea for 7 weeks, it was the swit...

Miao Is Back Home (Day 6 After Surgery)! 18th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Miao is discharged and back home!
She is okay but still has a constipation problem and is on laxatives. She also has a course of antibiotics (Curam) to complete.
We gave a Medical Aid of a total of RM3604 for Miao which covers the attempted spaying (at the first clinic), the diaphragmatic hernia surgery and 5 days of hospitalisation (including 3 days before surgery to get her stabilised under oxygen and 2 days after surgery).
The caregivers covered the extra hospitalisation and treatment for 4 m...

Nomi’s Update (Day 12 After Surgery) 18th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Nomi’s wound looks so much better today!
She will be boarded until her sutures can be removed.
The wound cleaning and boarding charges are covered by the caregivers.
The vet updated that Nomi’s incision site is quite clean, less discharge seen. Tomorrow if her incision is dry, her sutures can already be removed. Otherwise she is eating well at the clinic.

Misty’s Breakfast (the Retraining Begins…) 18th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Months ago, I had successfully converted Gerald and Misty to a raw food diet, but over the months, it sort of went back to canned food, and worst, after I confined them for those 18 post-reptilian days, Misty insisted on kibble only.
So, I tried to add in more canned food, and that worked…provided there was kibble toppings.
Today, I’m going to start retraining her back to raw food, even if it’s mixed, but at least she gets some raw nutrition.
I know this isn’t advisable...

Gerald Is Selectively Friendly… 17th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Gerald is about the most friendly cat I’ve ever come across.
But is he friendly to everyone?
Samantha loved him and still does. Misty loves and hero-worships him. Gerald was terrified of Creamy, if you remember.
So does this make him a friendly cat and also a scaredy cat?
The first time I ever saw him was when he mated with Samantha on the road. I straight away picked him up and placed him into a carrier, carted him off to vet’s for castration, along with Creamy.
It was that easy.

Miao’s Updates (Day 5 After Surgery) 17th May 2024, by AnimalCare
The vet updated that Miao is doing well. She is alert and eating well and her breathing is stable as well. However, she has not defecated for a few days, so the vet has started her with a laxative and will monitor her stool output.
A photo and a video of Miao taken by Aline when she took Nomi for the wound cleaning:

Nomi’s Updates (Day 11) – Back To The Clinic 17th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Nomi is back in the clinic for hospitalisation now.
Ms Yim and I thought it was time to take a back seat with Nomi and Miao’s cases since it’s already been so many days now. I do have other cases to handle too, some of which we do not publish to respect the privacy of the people who request for assistance. We only publish cases that we help with monetary aid, or any useful sharing but with the consent of the people who share when we think the sharing will benefit caregivers and their...

The Blondies’ Breakfast 17th May 2024, by AnimalCare
A lottery-winning morning!
Can you see all four of them?
If it’s raw food, they must eat far away from each other. I don’t know why.
So I got all four to eat a raw breakfast today and I had a good Blue Zone workout, going from one to another, topping up their bowls. Not the same food, mind you. There’s Coco&Joe’s Rabbit Recipe, Cubgrub’s Chicken and Cubgrub’s Quail.
You just got to know who wants what.

Misty And Her Duties 17th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Misty has taken upon the duty of guarding our porch from intruders and protecting our plants too.
She is our gardening cat!
These are our figs.
Our lemon tree – dual purpose, ie. to provide shade for the platforms and to drink lemon infused water daily (hopefully!).
Our sunkist tree.
Our guavas. We have had the pleasure of partaking in the fruits of our labour for many rounds now!
After a hard day’s work assisting in the gardening, Misty gets a snack.
But she doesn’t want...

Jayden, Ginger And The Monsters 16th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Ginger had a bit of vomiting yesterday so I gave him Adored Beast’ Feline Gut Soothe and that took care of it!
This is probably the most solid cat tree ever! It has to be, if the Monsters can play on it without it wobbling or being destroyed.
Ginger and Jayden!

Gerald & Misty Today 16th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Misty’s post-breakfast snack after helping me with gardening. Her breakfast is always wet food.
Here comes Gerald!
https://animalcare.my/wp-content/uploads/2 024/05/2-video.mp4
Normally, Misty will rush to the garbage compartment to welcome Gerald, but today, she was still busy eating her snack.
Gerald and Misty get Healthy Gut pre-probiotics daily too. It is also from Adored Beast.
I totally believe in the benefit of pre-probiotics for humans, dogs and cats. I will repeat this for the ...

Feeding The Blondies 16th May 2024, by AnimalCare
This is today’s attempt to get them to eat a raw food breakfast.
Only Samantha and Kai ate. Akira and Indra just wanted to play.
It took awhile before I could get Indra to eat.
Akira just wanted to play.
And play.
After about half an hour, I offered cut-up raw chicken meat and she ate these.
Indra’s loose stool problem is resolved, thanks to the medication as well as the probiotic Feline Gut Soothe from Adored Beast.

Nomi’s Updates (morning Of Day 10) 16th May 2024, by AnimalCare
Nomi’s wound looks okay this morning. I’ve already sent the photo to the vet and she says it is acceptable and there is no need for Ms Yim to bring Nomi in.
We want to, again, thank the kind reader who shared the use of Metrogyl Gel with us. According to Aline, the gel really works!
Thank you for your kind sharing, LC!

Nomi’s Updates (late Night Of Day 9) 15th May 2024, by AnimalCare
The caregivers bought the Metrogyl gel this evening and have applied it on Nomi’s wound.
Since the Metrogyl gel is colourless and the iodine is yellow, it is hard to tell if the thickish yellowish liquid in the photo is pus or just the gel mixed with the iodine. We have suggested that the caregiver take a photo tomorrow morning to be sent to the vet before applying any of the medication.
Meanwhile, Ms Yim (a donor and a friend of the aunt of the caregivers who first alerted Ms Yim about ...

Nomi’s Updates (evening Of Day 9) 15th May 2024, by AnimalCare
We would like to thank one of our readers for her sharing, as below, in her email to me this afternoon after reading about Nomi’s infected wound:
Reading about Nomi’s surgical wound infection, maybe you get the caregivers to ask the vet whether these would help better than just iodine (I learnt that iodine might not promote wound healing but this is not to question the vet) – ChlorHex (clean wound) & Metrogyl gel to apply. I once had a cat with spaying wound opened up and I...

Nomi’s Surgical Wound Is Infected (Day 9) 15th May 2024, by AnimalCare
The caregivers, Nicholas and Aline, took Nomi back to see the vet today because her wound looked infected.
The vet has confirmed that the wound is indeed infected and there is a possibility that it may have to re-opened up for debriding and re-suture if it does not get well. Meanwhile, to control the infection, Nomi has been prescribed with another additional antibiotic, Clindamycin, to be given once a day on top of the Curam prescribed earlier, given twice a day. Nomi has also been given Povido...
