Vincent, Why Are You Eating Dirt? 27th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
I’ve noticed it twice now.
Vincent would go to the soil and eat it.
Yes, he would lick the soil, chew and swallow.
Vincent is eating dirt.
It reminds me of Baggy, years ago, when I was fostering her after she was confirmed to be FeLV-positive. Her red blood count was so, so incredibly low (she was very anaemic) that she would lick rocks. I asked her vet then and the vet said it’s because of the lack of iron (as a mineral) that cats will naturally lick rocks to try to get more iron in...

Animal Abuse On The Rise In Malaysia? 27th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
The news: https://www.malaymail.com/s/1666323/ani mal-abuse-on-the-rise-in-malaysia-statistics-show
According to the news, it’s on the rise.
Or is it because there is more awareness now, people have more courage to report such cases, so we get to read more of such cases?
Once wonders, though, with AWA2015, there is more legislation supposedly to protect animals and punish animal abusers, but if animal abuse is indeed on the rise, then perhaps punitive measures aren’t the only w...

Oh No…another Week (of Pilling Vincent) 26th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent was still sneezing and there were specks of blood in the mucus, so we brought him to the vet for a check-up today.
As it turned out, the healing of the ulcers in the mouth is much slower than expected.
The ulcers are still bad although the lymph nodes have almost gone back to their normal healthy size.
The healing is slow.
The flu is still present and the specks of blood is most likely from the sinus lining.
So, Vincent has to go on another week of antibiotics.
Help….
Another 14 m...

The Pilling “battles” With Vincent 25th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Yesterday was an exceptionally difficult day with Vincent.
Not only has he figured a way to stick his paw out of the burqa hole and to do a “tortoise” (retract head into towel so that mouth isn’t accessible), he can now fight his way through the towel and put up a struggle.
Yesterday, I don’t know how he did it. I was so sure we had made him swallow the tablet. I did open his mouth many times and there was definitely no trace of the tiny white tablet, but after almost 15 ...

Indy’s Backjoy 24th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
I’ve been having severe lower back pain since March this year. Visits to three chiropractors revealed that it’s a case of a bulging disc on my spine. All three chiropractors said they would be able to “fix it”, but so far, the fixing attempts have all failed. Sigh…
And because of this bulging disc, I cannot bend. I already cannot squat for years due to a meniscus tear on my right knee, and now, I cannot bend. It’s been very challenging (and painful...

Another Cow-Bunny Fight 24th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Two days ago, Cow and Bunny had another big fight.
We heard cat screams at Bunny’s Place and by the time we got there, Indy was standing in between Cow and Bunny.
Good ol’ Indy! He always tries to break up the Cow and Bunny fights.
Luckily it hadn’t gone into the lock-body state yet, or the part where fur flies all over.
Thanks to Indy, of course.
But Cow was still in attack mode, so we used the water hose to break up the tension between them.
Our hero!
The perpetrator.

Vincent Defies The Burqa 24th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
My cousin aptly describes Vincent’s holey cloth as a “burqa”!
It actually reminds me of a “telekung”, but then “burqa” it is!
After two days of being controlled by the burqa, Vincent figured out how to outwit us.
First, he stuck his paw out of the hole thereby tearing the cloth and making the hole even bigger. By doing so, his whole head could come out of the hole and this gave him more mobility to shake his head.
Next, he figured out he could retract hi...

The Holey Cloth Story Continues (evening Pilling Session) 21st Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Here we go again, Vincent!
The holey cloth actually worked this evening! Vincent did not struggle and we could open his mouth wide enough. But…the tablet got lodged right at his ulcerated gum (this is purely because my aim was hopeless again!). We syringed water twice to ensure he swallowed.
I’ll say this was quite a success!
Vincent’s reward was some yoghurt!
Ten more pilling sessions to go…

The Holey Cloth (pilling Vincent Continues) 21st Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Last night, Chen sent this video: https://youtu.be/_4qV3i2rnpg It shows how this lady managed to feed and examine a totally feral, hissing adult cat (just caught) by using a towel with a hole just big enough for the mouth and ears.
I thought it was definitely worth a try!
So, this morning…
We have so many old towels and it so happened that this pink towel already has a hole in it. Yay…perfecto! I think the size of the hole is just right.
So, we have the holey clot...

The Pill-At-Home Plan In Action (for Vincent) 20th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
The preparation.
It really is just a teeny weeny tablet. Certainly so much smaller than the dreaded Stomorgyl from last time.
The inspection (by Tabs).
So we followed the vet’s instructions to the letter, ie. Step (1) Put cat on table, to Step (2) Wipe face and head with wet cloth and then onwards to Step (3) Tilt cat’s head up.
Step (3) kind of failed. Vincent was too smart to be fooled, so we went on to (3b) Rub chin and cat should tilt head.
Should, indeed.
(3b) also fai...

Vincent Has The Flu (to The Vet’s Again) 20th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent has been drooling thick and smelly saliva again. It must be the mouth ulcers again. He also sneezes occasionally and two days ago, I noticed specks of blood on the floor (which I attributed to his mouth ulcers).
Also, he has been extremely choosy over food and only wants to eat raw food. Luckily we have our supply of Cubgrub barf (for Pole and Cleo), so that’s what he has been eating.
The worrying thing is that Vincent eats a lot, and yet, he is still very thin. His weight is...

Neutering Aid For 3 Dogs In Lumut (Mohd Khalil Sofi Bin Harun’s) 20th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
We have sponsored RM300 for the neutering of these 3 dogs.
Hello Dr. Chan,
Here’s the pictures of 3 dogs that I’ve found near the abandon construction land beside the sea. It was used to be a temporary home area for the foreign workers.
to be honest, there’s more but I only managed to capture this 3 first.
My next plan is to rehome all of them. If not I just release them back coz i feed them everyday.
I’ll post the form today.
Got plenty to come and I’ll will ...

International Homeless Animals Day 19th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, 18th August, was “International Homeless Animals Day”.
Our friend, ardent supporter and dedicated rescuer, Dr Veeranoot, who is now back home in Thailand, sent this image below.
Doesn’t it break your heart to think of what might happen to all these innocent little puppies who are born on the street if they do not have the rare good fortune of being adopted, everywhere in the world (except for the Netherlands that have achieved the zero-stray status for dogs (they st...

Urgent Help Needed For Newborn Kitten (Gayathri SK’s) 18th Aug 2018, by AnimalCare
If you are able to help, please contact Gayathri directly. Thank you.
Found this just born in my house @ Jln Terasek 1, Bangsar, KL. Abandoned, covered in blood with umblical cord still attached. Vet has since cut the cord & we have been feeding milk through a syringe. The poor chap’s survival is minimal if the responsible owner of the momma cat that just delivered this morning doesn’t allow the kitten to be fed & cared for by the mom. I hope the owner comes forward or ...
