Hooray For Capsules! (about Vincent) 5th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
What a complete ass I’ve been…why hadn’t I thought of using capsules before this?
AND suffered so long in trying so hard to pill Vincent?
Capsules work! They really do. All I have to do is to cut up any tablet into tiny pieces so that the pieces can be stuffed into the capsule.
I think it’s all due to the rounded ends, which makes swallowing so much easier and less painful.
Just now, I made a very brave attempt – I fed Vincent a Bioresis capsule ALL BY MYSELF. With...

No, No, No….no? (Vincent’s Dinner) 5th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Every meal is a great challenge.
Vincent cannot be force-fed. He hates it. He resents it. He will resist and fight. So, it causes more stress on him.
I’ll attribute it to his “soldiery” pride. He’s a soldier. No soldier will give in a being force-fed.
So, it was about an hour ago that he came down from the staircase landing. This is usually a sign that he might want some food.
I walked into the kitchen and he followed me.
Oh, good, good.
Some food, Vincent?
I offered his ...

Ideas, Ideas, Ideas…for Vincent 5th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Today, my friend, Agnes, reminded me about the efficacy of the golden paste (turmeric paste cooked with virgin coconut oil and black pepper) today, or how she cured her rescued cat of mouth ulcers in all but five days when 49 days of antibiotics, laser treatment and steroids didn’t work.
Agnes’ sharing in 2017: https://myanimalcare.org/2017/05/21/a-s haring-on-the-golden-paste-turmeric-paste/
But my first obstacle was: How on earth can I possibly feed it to Vincent? Vincent, who...

Dr Karen Becker On Feeding A Raw Diet To Dogs And Cats 5th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
A very information video as it addresses most pet owners’ concerns when it comes to feeding raw – the question of bacteria, pathogens and parasites on raw meat.
The video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3wLTl qnMMg
Historically and biologically, dogs and cats have adapted to eat raw meat for thousands of year and this has not changed. Dr Becker also explains how the very low acidity (pH 1) of the stomachs of dogs and cats as well as how their digestive systems (like the presen...

Not Too Small, Not Too Big, Please… 5th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
This morning, Vincent came into our bedroom and woke me up at 3am. He called and jumped onto the bed.
There was no alarm from the clock.
Vincent was the alarm!
I got up and went downstairs with him to the kitchen. I thought he might want to eat, but no, he didn’t.
I don’t know why he woke me up.
He went back to the staircase landing and settled down, and that was it.
At 7.30am, everyone had their breakfast and Vincent was offered his bowl too.
I thought he had only been eating chicke...

Vincent Ate 3 Times Today! 4th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
And this is cause for celebration already!
After the fright yesterday when he refused to eat all his meals, today’s 3 meals of voluntary eating is almost heaven-sent!
This is lunch at 12.20pm today.
After that, I went out to buy a fresh batch of chicken fillet since it’s the only thing Vincent would eat. Came home and starting cutting the fillet up. Ginger, Heidi and Tabs came to ask for some, but Vincent wasn’t interested. It’s okay, he had just eaten. That’s fine...

A Fright From Vincent 4th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Yesterday was a bad day for Vincent.
He only ate a moderate amount for breakfast and throughout the day, he refused to eat.
The sad thing is that, he would come into the kitchen when it was time for meals and wait for his food. I offered him everything we had (home-cooked, canned, blended raw, cut-up raw, liquid food, Primal), one after another, but nothing seemed right. He would just look at the food and turn away, but continue waiting.
That was really so, so sad. It was as though he wanted to ...

Neutering Aid For 2 Cats In Petaling Jaya (Josephine Lu Pi-Choo’s) 3rd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
We have sponsored RM120 for the neutering of these 2 cats.
Ms Lu is a new applicant.
Dear Dr Chan,
The brief history of the neutered cats are as follows:
1) The black and white cat was found in SS25 around 16 October 2017. It was a kitten then, thin and looked sickly. I took him to the back lane as I was afraid the dogs will kill it. He is a stray cat and is released back to our community in SS25.
2) The white and gray cat was a tiny kitten when found. Probably abandoned by...

Neutering Aid For 1 Dog And 1 Cat In Puchong (Teresa Chian Li Kim’s) 3rd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
We have sponsored RM160 for the neutering of this dog and cat.
Hi Kah Yein,
I am applying for neutering aid for 2 of my rescues. Below are their collage pics and stories.
Joya was found sitting at a traffic light by an intersection in Puchong Bandar Puteri area. She is less than 1 year old, energetic, toilet-trained, listens to instructions and is generally a joyful dog (hence the name). She is surprisingly well-adjusted to my cats. She will be rehomed after recovery from spaying.
Lunar was re...

Vincent Eats Again! 2nd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent was excited during lunch time and came into the kitchen with everyone else. I offered him canned food, blended raw food, raw fillet meat, liquid food (one by one) but none of them appealed to him.
Poor guy…
Vincent has always been a very choosy eater, but now, perhaps it’s the ulcers or the flu (the loss of the sense of smell?) making it difficult for him to have an appetite.
Or, as I remember, Daffodil was very, very particular about raw food. She would only eat freshly bou...

Vincent To Continue With The Antibiotics 2nd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Today is the 14th day of Vincent’s anitbiotics (Clavomox). Unfortunately, he is still not getting better, so we took him to the vet’s.
There was also something a bit worrying this morning when Vincent refused to eat.
Vincent is already super fussy when it comes to food. He’s the type of cat who would rather starve than eat something which is not on his list of “preferred foods”.
We went from home-cooked to canned food, then to blended raw food (which he loved). Next...
