Vincent’s Staring Game 10th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent ate at 7.30am this morning, so I didn’t expect him to ask for food so early, but he came to the kitchen on his own at 11.30am, seemingly asking for food.
But he didn’t want whatever was offered.
It was a staring game again, which I’m getting used to by now, but it does take a lot of patience to wait for minutes before offering the next type of food, only to be turned down and the cycle repeats until I’m finished with whatever options I think he might want.
Since h...

What About Me? (Ginger’s Story) 10th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
One of Tabs’ favourite activities is to sit on cushions and bolsters.
She does it in the living room and every night, on our bolster. She also takes over my entire pillow whenever she gets the chance.
It’s all about sleeping on a soft surface. She loves doing that.
Ginger: What about me?

Vincent’s Stories (the Big Vomit) 10th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
After the subcut at noon yesterday, as expected, Vincent felt much better and ate quite a far amount for each meal.
He ate dinner yesterday.
He even ate supper and all seemed well.
We also gave him the first capsule of Azodyl at noon yesterday, after returning home from the clinic.
However, this morning when I came downstairs, I found a lot of vomit on the landing and Vincent was sitting beside it. To my surprise and disappointment, I found the Azodyl capsule, almost intact, just opened up (two...

Of New Tricks, Subcut And Kidney Damage (Vincent’s Stories) 9th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Getting ready for breakfast this morning.
Vincent’s menu – what will he be willing to eat today?
No…
Do you want Ginger’s food, Vincent?
Not really…
So, nothing was right for Vincent this morning.
I didn’t want to force-feed him since he had eaten yesterday evening. Will try to refrain from force-feeding unless absolutely necessary since he could do without the stress.
He went back to the landing.
After a few minutes, I decided to try something else&h...

Another Trump Card Failed (Vincent’s Stories) 8th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
The Avoderm worked only for one meal.
Sigh.
Here’s what happened…
I bought the Avoderm in time for an early dinner.
Vincent came to the kitchen with everyone. I offered him Recovery first, hoping the keep the Avoderm as a “trump card” as long as possible. Of course, he didn’t want the Recovery at all. I blame it on my own silly mistake of having used Recovery to force-feed him this morning. He must really hate the taste of Recovery now.
I offered raw meat, but Vinc...

We just rescued her 2-3 days ago because the area we found her has no source of food. she is still quite feral and scared. So we thought we should neuter her fast.

There Goes My Trump Card (Vincent’s Stories) 8th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
This morning, my Recovery trump card did not work anymore. Vincent had already lost interest in it.
I think Vincent is displaying a sort of “hypomanic” behaviour in eating. He would go crazy over one type of food but the “passion” would only last, at most, 2 days. Then, he doesn’t want it anymore.
But how many food options can I keep finding to satisfy his hypomanic passion??
I don’t want Recovery and I don’t want raw meat.
I don’t want to eat.
I...

Recovery…there Goes My Trump Card! (Vincent’s Tales) 7th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
I was keeping the can of Recovery as my “trump card” and not using it until all else fails.
Well, all else failed today.
Vincent came asking for food, but none of my options worked.
So I had to use my trump card – the Recovery.
Vincent eyes literally lit up the moment I opened the can. He could smell it.
And yes, he sniffed at it a bit…and he started eating!
Wow…he loved it!!
But not for long….
After a few spoonfuls, he wanted his raw meat again.
Back to...

Vincent’s Breakfast And More On His Blood Test Results 7th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
This morning, Vincent didn’t want his cut-up raw meat anymore (of moderate size).
So, what did he want now?
Well, he ate a bit of Monge and a fair amount of Cubgrub! I’m so glad he is willing to eat Cubgrub now as it’s nutritionally balanced (Dr Lisa Pierson’s recipe). I just hope he will continue eating Cubgrub, especially when it’s confirmed now that he has kidney issues and the vet said raw meat would be the best food for him.
He ate about half of that Monge.

Zurik Comes Back For Lunch; Why Ginger Walks With A Limp 6th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
It didn’t take long for Zurik to come back.
He came back for lunch.
That’s Ginger watching him from Stargate2. The two used to be the very best of friends. Now, not so.
By the way, there was something else which the vet noticed and felt in Ginger today, at the clinic. I told the vet that Ginger had always walked with a slight limp. The vet immediately noticed that his right hind leg and thigh isn’t as developed as the left. This could be due to some injury when he was young o...

Vincent Eats, But….(blood Test Results) 6th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Right after we brought Vincent and Ginger home, I had to go off for my own doctor’s appointment. I’ve been having this back pain since the end of March and it’s been worsening. It was a very, very long wait at the hospital so by the time we got home, it was about 8pm.
By then, Vincent had been fasting for many hours, so I hoped he would be hungry when we got home. Also, I hoped the subcut fluids had perked him up enough so that he would be motivated to eat something on hi...

The Capsule Failed, Off To The Vet’s Again (Vincent’s Story) 6th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
The capsule failed miserably this morning. Vincent fought it off, spat it out twice and it was a struggle.
It only took him half a day to figure out a winning strategy on the capsule.
Sigh…
He also didn’t want to eat anything this morning.
The most alarming thing was that his weight (taken this morning) was only 2.5kg. That’s a very drastic loss. It wasn’t totally unexpected, though, since he has not been eating well at all.
I texted the vet and he said maybe it’s ...

The Big Ginger-Zurik Fight And Ginger To The Vet 6th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
In the middle of last night, Mr Zurik came into our bedroom through the bathroom window…again.
My husband carried him down and left him at the patio with Ginger. He didn’t want to put Zurik back in the porch because he might just come through the bathroom window again and we would have no sleep all night.
But what happened shortly after that was…a big war cry.
Husband came down to check and found Zurik posturing, Ginger was the clear-cut victim and there were tufts of fur (Gi...
