Who Wants Chicken Soup? 13th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Us, us, us!!
Bunny LOVED the chicken soup!! So did Cow and Cleo..well, yes too.
But Bunny couldn’t have enough of it. He kept asking for more.
So yes, that’s where most of the soup went.
More, more…
Pole wasn’t interested enough to come down from her pedestal.
But when offered…
She ate some too.
Indy also wasn’t interested…
What??
When offered…

Vincent Licks The Chicken Soup, And…. 13th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
At about 5pm just now, surprisingly, Vincent came to the kitchen, mewing, asking for something.
He has not mewed for the longest time.
He even started rubbing himself all over my leg, something he hadn’t done ever since his condition became bad (which would be about 3 weeks or more now).
And he mewed and mewed…
What do you want, Vincent?
Ah, I know….
It must be the aroma of the chicken soup.
The aroma had permeated every nook and corner of the whole house because I was using ...

Vincent To The Vet’s 13th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Yesterday was a bad day for Vincent.
He only ate breakfast and after that, it was the sad staring game.
He came to the kitchen at lunch time, dinner and supper, but could not bring himself to eat.
https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/uploads/2 018/09/vincent.mp4
Vincent and me, last night, at the landing.
This morning he came to the kitchen again, but could not eat. Then, he went out to the patio as I fed Mr Zurik and Vincent tried to escape through Stargate2. He has tried to escape twice. I do ...

Vincent Has No Appetite At All 12th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
The (great) effect of the subcut, unfortunately, only lasted for a few hours. This morning, Vincent ate a moderate amount without being forced and that has been his last meal until now.
At 2pm, when everyone had lunch, Vincent came to the kitchen and it was just the staring game all over again. He sat and waited for food, but everything that I offered was just not right.
Then, at 5pm, when everyone had dinner, he came again. The same thing happened. He would just sit and wait and stare. He sniff...

No More Zurik-Incursions…hopefully! 12th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Since last year when we needed to keep Rosie indoors for her treatment (and later, also Daffodil), we fixed the green netting to our bedroom and adjoining bathroom windows.
This was effective in keeping Rosie and Daffodil indoors, but not in keeping Zurik out.
For the downstairs living room, we installed the stainless steel mosquito netting, and this works well in keeping Zurik out. We did not fix this for our bedroom.
For the past few months or longer, Zurik had been getting a thrill of coming ...

Indy And His “crazy” Ways 12th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Indy does the craziest stunts. He’s a real character to contend with.
I have noticed for the longest time that he wants to do whatever I do.
Trying to use the computer.
It’s been a few times that he created havoc on my laptop by stepping all over and altering some key functions of my computer. I had to take it back to the shop to get it fixed!
I got this Backjoy for my back pain, but most of the time, Indy monopolises it.
Is it even comfortable for you, Indy?
It doesn’t...

Vincent And Ginger’s Stories 12th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
From yesterday afternoon until quite late last night, Ginger was sleeping in the open cage.
Whenever he goes into that open cage, it means he isn’t feeling well.
This brings me back to almost 7 years ago when Ginger first came to our house. He had been injured by Mr Quack in a fight and he had a wounded paw (which, as it turned out, was about to turn gangrenous). That time, Ginger’s family was still living at the playground and only Rosie had befriended us. Daffodil was out of reach....

3 Hours After The Subcut (Vincent’s Stories) 12th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent was looking (and I think, feeling) miserable the whole day. He didn’t feel like eating and he looked terrible.
That is why I decided to do the subcut, which we did at 9.30pm tonight.
Three hours later, at about 12.15am, Vincent came to the kitchen looking much brighter.
Of course by now, I more or less can read his body language.
You want food, right?

Yes!
No force-appetiser needed.

Goodnight From The Low-Profile Girls 11th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
With so much focus on Vincent lately, I haven’t been writing much about the rest of the cats.
Ginger, Tabs and Heidi get some “press time” because they live in the house with Vincent, so their stories overlap.
Of course, Zurik gets quite a bit of press time as well (due to his fights). Cow and Bunny too (same reason as Zurik).
Then, Indy does the craziest stunts so he gets written about as well.
So, who gets the least press time?
Our low profile girls.
The two girls who don&rsq...

Vincent’s First Home Subcut (a Success!) 11th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent wasn’t looking too well today, so we decided to do the subcut (it was supposed to be tomorrow, but one day earlier is fine).
(1) Hibiscrub, clean water and cotton pads.
(2) Alcohol swabs
(3) Drip set in place.
(4) All ready….get Vincent.
(5) Place him in the open carrier.
(6) Clean area with hibiscrub, followed by alcohol swabs.
(7) Ensure fluid flows out from needle BEFORE removing needle cover. Must keep needle uncontaminated (extremely important).
(8) Remove needle cove...

A New Applicant From Ipoh 11th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Once in a blue moon, I would have the great fortune of meeting an extremely polite, respectful and sincere new applicant.
Today was such a day.
One of our regular applicants introduced our Neutering Fund to a rescuer and feeder from Ipoh. He doesn’t speak or write English, so I was asked if he could contact me by phone.
For such cases, I normally use whatsapp voicemail.
So, we got talking and yes, this is a once-in-a-blue-moon encounter of an extremely polite new applicant.
I absolutely va...

Vincent’s Stories 11th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Today, Vincent only ate twice. Once, at 6.30am and the second meal was just now, at 5.15pm. At noon, when everyone else came, he also came to the kitchen, but there was only the staring game (he staring at each option that I offered and not eating anything). I didn’t want to force-feed him at noon since he had already eaten a fair amount in the morning.
But just now, I had to use the “forced appetiser” technique because it had already been almost 12 hours sinc...

Help One Brave Woman Stop The Blood-Thirsty Millionaire 11th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
A message from Avaaz:
It’s sickening. They shot her with an exploding harpoon, hacked the foetus out of her, and trashed it. She was just one of the 238 endangered fin whales, millionaire Kristjan Loftsson was allowed to kill this year.
Fin whales are awe-inspiring — capable of communicating through song, feeling love and deep emotional suffering. Loftsson is the last man on the planet still slaughtering these gentle giants – often while they’re pregnant.

A Meatless Quinoa Porridge 10th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
I was so inspired after listening to several of Philip Wollen’s speeches and one interview that I decided to “create” (oh wow!) my own quinoa porridge for dinner today.
Me create a meal? Yes, you read that right.
Here it is!
I made it using a slow cooker. First, I dumped in the quinoa, then added in all kinds of veggies (carrot, sweet potato, pumpkin, radish, tomato, onions), and lastly, water (I don’t remember how much water I put, but it should be about the amount need...

Vincent’s Evening 10th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
I took the vet’s advice and let Vincent play his staring game. The vet was absolutely correct in saying that cats are just “gods of another religion” (!!) and it’s sometimes futile for us to try to understand them, especially from our limited human perspective.
How would we know what they want, right?
By 4pm, Vincent came to the kitchen to ask for food. This time I was quite sure he would eat, and I was right.
