Another Opinion For Pole 17th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Last night, I managed to receive a response from a senior vet whom I consulted about Pole. This vet agreed that we needn’t wait for 2 weeks with the medication. Instead, we should get the blood test done as soon as possible (results could be obtained within 20 mins) and if Pole is fit for general anaesthesia, we should go ahead with the tooth extraction.
With that being the case, I was advised to take Pole back to the clinic today and get an evaluation.
So, I got up at 4am this morning and...

Pole Eats Kibble 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
It was supper time for the Cow Clan and husband had forgotten that Pole has a dental problem. So, since Pole went to her eating station on the pantry counter, he gave Pole a bowl of kibble too, and Pole happily ate it. By the time I came into the pantry, Pole was already eating so I let her go on. It would be good too, to see if she could eat kibble. That would indicate to us how severe the inflammation is.

The Evening Stories 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Heidi:
Heidi likes to lounge at the porch these days. She is particularly skilful at sneaking out of the front door. She is not afraid of Mr Zurik.
Mr Zurik does occasionally chase her. But there has been no fights so far.
Maybe Mr Zurik has his own rules? He won’t fight with females or elderly ones?
But it is still safer for Heidi to come inside.
It’s not easy to coax her to come in…unless it’s in the morning after taiji when we eat half-boiled eggs. Heidi likes the ...

Another Drum Roll, Please!! 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
It happened at 2.20pm, after I returned home with fresh chicken for Vincent and the cats.
It was past their lunch time, so everyone was excited.
I fed Vincent (but he just stared at the food and did not eat – it’s okay), Tabs, Heidi and Ginger, then I brought in Monge, Cubgrub and two slices of cut chicken meat. It was supposed to be for Cow’s clan.
But Pole was waiting at my table, so…why not?
Let’s see if she can eat any of it. After all, there’s three type...

Drumroll, Please…. 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
The Chinese say you must not outwardly demonstrate your rejoicing when things works in your favour. I don’t know why the Chinese have this taboo, but if there is a good reason for it, please allow me a small indiscretion and share this news with you, because all of you have been rooting for Vincent and I am truly thankful for your moral support.
I believe in celebrating small achievements. After all, life is made up of fleeting moments. Every moment will pass on and is not permanent, so I ...

Vincent Eats Another A+ Meal And Pole Eats A Few Pellets (kibble) 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Pole kept mewing, calling for me.
I guess she is hungry, but what food would she be willing to eat? And what food can she eat which would cause minimum pain to her inflamed gums?
The vet said that kibble was out of the question. Of course, of course.
But here’s the problem. She no longer wants Cubgrub (probably associated with the last few days where there was pain and I didn’t know about it). She doesn’t want AD (associated with yesterday’s pain).
This morning, she manag...

Mind Over Matter…sometimes (the Story Of My Thyroid Cyst) 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
I’ll like to digress again and share a little personal experience which I hope may be beneficial to some of our readers.
In 2015, I had a sudden craving for flavoured seaweed and over a period of a few days, consumed a bit too much. One afternoon, as I was eating it, I felt a lump growing in my neck. It swelled up and became painful.
Of course I was worried. And the swelling did not go down. It affected my swallowing, breathing and it even hurt when I talked.
So, after trying various DIY r...

The Pilling Sessions (Vincent And Pole) 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent is a darling today.
I started by wiping his head and mouth with a soft wet flannel cloth. He likes this.
There are three pills for this morning – the quartered Baytril, the Azodyl capsule and the B Complex. The syringe contains Vetri DMG (I’m using it to wash down the tablets, if necessary).
Re this B Complex, I don’t know if it was this tiny little yellow tablet (which only costs 10 sen) that gave Vincent a good appetite yesterday. Three days ago, he ate well, but tha...

The Staring Game (Vincent) And The Running Game (Pole) 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
This morning, Vincent played the staring game. He did not eat.
I’ve come to totally accept and embrace the fact that Vincent will have good days and bad days. So, it’s okay. I’m not going to beat myself up or think that I’m not doing my best because I know I am. Some things are just beyond our control.
Will see how the day progresses later on…
Last night, in desperation, I contacted two vets to ask why the 2-week medication is necessary, why can’t we just do...

Selamat Hari Malaysia 2018! 16th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
As we celebrate a “new” Malaysia, under a new government which promises Harapan Baru to Rakyat Malaysia, AnimalCare only has one Harapan and one request:
Please, please, please spare the street animals from capture. Let the feeders get them neutered and please allow them to live on.
Just one request.
Boleh, tak?

Nightmare On Pole Street 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Right now, my back is full of Pole-scratch marks and I’m in pain.
It’s been a nightmare.
After that mouth-pawing episode, I waited a few hours before offering Pole some food. She could not bring herself to eat so I left her alone.
Then, just now, at 8.00pm, we came home from taiji and Pole seemed interested in food. She jumped up onto the pantry and waited…
So I gave her some AD – no. Cubgrub – no. These are the only foods she would eat. I’ve tried liquid (mo...

Vincent ate another A+ meal at 5.00pm today!
Since he is eating, we will spare the subcut for today.
Tomorrow will be another day.

Pole Eats But… 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
I decided it would be wiser to let Pole settle down properly and completely after a few traumatic experiences today – the trip to the clinic, our attempt to spray the Biosilver (which failed miserably) and our next attempt to squirt the Biosilver using the syringe (which failed). We also attempted to trim her nails (only managed to trim 2 nails after which she turned violent).
By 4pm, I decided to offer some food. I thought liquid food might be good, so I gave her some Ciao treats. U...

Pole Has Bad Teeth And Gingivitis 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Ming-Yi and I took Pole to the vet’s today.
Waiting for our turn.
I already informed the vet that Pole is extremely nervous and “jumpy” so he was prepared.
The only times Pole had ever been to the vet’s was for her kitten vaccinations and spaying. There was also one other time when I mistakenly thought she had urination problem (blocked bladder), so I rushed her to the clinic. That visit was a total disaster as Pole was too “jumpy” until she was literally jum...

Vincent Eats An A+ Lunch! 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Today, luckily for me, Ming-Yi came, so she was able to help me with Vincent, Pole and Ginger.
For some unknown reason, Vincent was exceptionally well-behaved today. Together, we managed to drop saline into his nostrils and clean them. He seemed to enjoy it too. We also managed to pill him without much struggle, except for the Azodyl (capsule).

Indy In Action 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
I’ve been waiting to capture Indy in action but always keep missing it.
Here’s a video of the “second half”:
He focuses, then makes a tall leap with a single bound onto the bar of the grille, then he heaves himself up (using mostly upper body strength) and the rest…you can see in the video.

Stretch Therapy 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Allow me to digress a little this morning and share something which I think might be beneficial to some of our readers.
As animal caregivers, we perform so many chores in a day, taking care of our pets, rescues and more so, those who are ill. And often, this requires us contorting our body into various positions, which sometimes, can be detrimental to our wellbeing in the long run.
Since March this year, I suddenly developed very severe lower back pain. On hindsight now, I think that it is a cum...

Three 3 Patients At Dawn 15th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Last night, after finishing all the claims for the day, I finally managed to sit down and mark all my test papers. That done, I put on a pot of chicken soup with the hope that the aroma might encourage Vincent to eat this morning.
Then I offered Pole some food again.
She ate a little bit.
We also noticed that the right side of her cheek seemed a bit bigger than the left. Maybe something is swollen inside her mouth.
I couldn’t sleep much last night so I got up at 5am just now. It’s b...

Farewell, Rex (one Of The Sunny Kittens) 14th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
If you were following our stories since 2011, you might remember the Sunny Kittens?
They were these 3 absolutely adorable kittens rescued by someone in KL (found abandoned in a box) and brought to me.
We had SO many memorable and very, very joyful time with the Sunny Kittens, but we just could not adopt anymore cats, so they were open for adoption.
Rozita Halim and her family adopted them. By far and undoubtedly, Rozita’s family remain one of the best adopters I’ve ever, ever found. ...
