Vincent’s Portraits (nostalgia)
20th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

20th Sept 2018 Here are some portraits from last time: Vincent with Zurik. Vincent tried very, very hard to prevent Zurik from invading into our compound, but Vincent failed. Well, Zurik was very persistent (don’t we all know this?). The two slowly became friends. Some manja-pot poses with me. Our ever-loyal soldier, on night guard duty. Vincent is a veteran. Salute!!

Vincent’s Meals After The Subcut
20th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

So, did Vincent eat after today’s complete (and extra) subcut? Of course he did! He ate after we returned from the vet’s. I’ll say this was a “B” meal. Jia-Wen saw something very touching last night. Apparently, Vincent had slept until his head was drooping from the stairs. It was actually quite a scary sight. Tabs was worried and went up to pat Vincent on the head. Then, Vincent got up. Aww…isn’t Tabs the sweetest cat? After his “B” mea...

What An Angel You Are, Vincent (at The Vet’s And After)
20th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

I’ll tell today’s story in chronological order. After the usual sniff-and-stare game, Vincent finally ate his raw meat breakfast this morning. Good boy, Vincent. I cannot play this game too long as I have to get to work. Meanwhile, Vincent has migrated to this step now. He really is descending the stairs – is this also a game? The descent started when I placed this blanket for me at his usual spot. Since then, he refused to go back to the landing. He just kept descending. A...

Good Morning, Vincent!
20th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

At 5am this morning, Vincent came into our bedroom and “honked”. Yes, his mew sounds like honking. I thought he might want some food since his last meal was at around 2pm yesterday, but I hadn’t had enough sleep for many days now, so I didn’t want to get up yet. Note to self: If you don’t take care of yourself, how are you going to take care of your pets? And I know that when I have a medical problem, it is usually something serious, something that would baffle...

Queuing Up At The Watering Hole
19th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

Vincent only ate twice today, and there were no “A” meals. He licked a little bit of Coco&Joe’s at 10.11am and had a “B” meal of raw meat and organs at 1.55pm. Since then, he hasn’t eaten. When Indy made the supper call just now, he came to the kitchen to join everyone too. To be fair, I offered him some food as well, but he just stare at it for about 5-10 minutes. Then, I told him I had to keep the food already or it would spoil and all of it would be was...

Of Sneezes, Coughs And Stretches
19th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

Nursing Vincent for the last two months has been a real challenge. More so because of my back injury. My back was so painful (and probably weak) that I could not even pick up a cat from the floor. Even picking up their food and water bowls led to excruciating pain. Thank goodness I am learning Stretch Therapy now and my back has improved so, so much. Within a week, I can now bend and pick up things with minimal discomfort. Imagine the numerous times I have to bend down each session to serve Vinc...

Biosilver-Ed Everyone
19th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

I’ve decided to apply Biosilver to all our cats on a weekly basis as maintenance for their gums. Gingivitis can lead to kidney disease later in life because the body recognises the gingivits and produces antibodies to fight it. Globulins are antibodies and these damage the nephrons in the kidneys. As explained by the senior vet the other day, Vincent’s kidney disease was inevitable. He had stomatitis two years ago, which was very serious and resulted in two tooth extractions. But the...

Her Royal Poleness
19th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

A portrait that says: Regal, Majestic, Stately, Dignified, Resplendent, Immaculate. Pole has not fully recovered yet. Yesterday she was sneezing quite badly. She is still on Baytril and I give her Vetri DMG. Today, the sneezing is significantly reduced. We cannot open her mouth to check on her gingivitis, so we will use her ability to eat as a yardstick. Her appetite still isn’t back to normal, but I don’t see her pawing at mouth or grinding her teeth anymore. She is also immaculate...

Insanity Is Doing The Same Thing Over And Over Again…
19th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

…and expecting different results – Einstein. That’s me. Going insane. So, shortly after the almost-failed subcut, Vincent came to the kitchen asking for food again. I did the same thing, again. Yes, going insane. Vincent, if you don’t want to eat, please don’t come to the kitchen. Can? After everything was just “not right” for Vincent and he refused to eat, I prepared food for the Cow Clan, but Vincent stared at me, so I just put the whole bowl down for...

An Unsuccessful Subcut And A Huge Struggle
19th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare

Today, we change a new set for the subcut. Got everything ready. But a few seconds after the needle went in, Vincent went on a massive protest. We tried everything we could, on the spot. We lifted him up, put him down, didn’t restrain him, restrained him, wiped his head and body with the wet flannel, etc. We could only managed up to 80ml (sigh!) and that’s when the struggle became too violent and the needle flew out. Okay, never mind. Maybe he prefers it being done at the clinic. B...
