Vincent Escapes…. 26th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent had lunch and dinner comprising only for the raw diet (CJ’s and Cubgrub). I did some fact-finding by asking friends and those who are knowledgeable in the raw meat diet.
The raw diet (barf) is usually about 15-20% protein. So, we cannot say that it’s packed with protein and therefore unsuitable for CKD patients. What CKD patients need is reduced protein, but high quality protein. So, this makes the raw diet quite ideal and almost perfect for them.
Lunch (barf)
Dinner (barf)...

Found Dog In PJ (Susan Swier’s) – Adopted!! 26th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
The dog has been adopted!!!!
The original post:
The request:
My name is Susan Swier and I found a dog at the Poh Kong SS 2/55 bus stop, Petaling Jaya, on Friday. I’ve already posted on Petfinder and in all the relevant Facebook groups I can think of. I’ve also given some posters to nearby pet supply shops and vets. I’d appreciate if you could also help me share the poster. The dog is so clean and friendly, she’s obviously a pet.
Thanks very much!

Yayyy For Vincent! We Are Going Up One Step Now! 26th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
We’ve just brought Vincent back for the vet’s and it’s all very encouraging news!! There’s so much, I hope I can remember them all!
Vincent’s lymph nodes have reduced in size – yay! Although his ulcers are still there, it hasn’t got any worse. Maybe, even a wee bit better. Yay! The vet said Vincent looks better too – yes, we agree, we agree! So much better.
And here’s the best news. Vincent’s hydration has improved (finally!) and altho...

A Feast For A 3.1kg Cat!! 26th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
First, very sorry for the lack of updates yesterday which actually got some of your worried (thanks!) about Vincent. I was called away for a few hours due to an emergency, so I was away from home and hence, no updates.
Also, because I was away for those few hours in the afternoon, Vincent could not be fed as often as I would have like to as in previous days and weeks). He is at a point where he could go both ways – up or down (in terms of wellbeing and weight), so it is very crucial that I...

Vincent’s Day 25th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent had a very early breakfast at 5.00am this morning.
He now likes to spend time upstairs. And he knows how to use our bathroom too – right at the drainhole.
Another meal at 11.25am. I had read that rabbit and poultry are suitable for CKD cats. Vincent is eating a rabbit meal provided by a friend.
He still likes variety – so it was the rabbit, Cubgrub and canned chicken.
Subcut was at done at 2.20pm.
250ml – all done. Without struggle.
What a good boy!
He had another ...

Vincent Eats Coco&Joe’s Too! 25th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Looks like my Vincent-posts are all about eating!!
For the first time in a longest time since Vincent was sick, he spent last time (all night) upstairs in the family hall. I woke up many times to peek at him too. He was there, but very alert (he knew I was peeking).
No more meatloaf position. He was sitting like a leopard!
I read that the meatloaf position could be a sign that they are in pain. Poor Vincent was sitting like that for so, so long. Too long.
I woke up really early today and c...

A Raw Diet For CKD Cats 25th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
What an informative article!!
https://feline-nutrition.org/health/phos phorus-can-be-key-for-kidneys
As I’ve written before, when it comes to nutrition, there are a few camps: The Raw Camp, The Cooked Camp, The Prescription Diet Camp (for sick cats), The Kibble Camp, etc. Within these camps, there are also the dieheart I-am-right-you-are-wrong camps (in each one).
I do not belong to any camp in particular, but I am doing my best to learn, for the sake of all our cats. I will listen t...

3.2kg? For Real? 24th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
We gave Vincent his meds for the night and since he was upstairs, we took everything upstairs for him.
I had earlier gone up to rub the (magical) Tramadol on his ears. I found him fast asleep and he was a picture of peace. It was just so, so nice seeing him being able to sleep so restfully. Before this, for weeks, he was always on his paws, in the meatloaf position. He couldn’t even lie down in a laterally recumbent position to sleep.
And now…here he is…sleeping so, so soundl...

Vincent Eats Again (he Can Lick Food Again)! 24th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Something IS happening…definitely.
Today, Vincent has eaten 5 meals and they were all good meals. He clearly and visibly enjoyed all his meals. No staring game at all. He just dived in and ate!
6.50am; 12.30pm; 2.30pm; 6.00pm; 8.30pm.
Ever since coming back from the vet’s yesterday, Vincent now resides upstairs (oh wow) in the family hall. He only comes down when he wants to eat.
And he come down again at 8.30pm just now, to ask for food. He sure is hungry today….maybe it&rsq...

Finally, Vincent Eats Cubgrub Again! 24th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Yay!!
Vincent is really going for a variety of foods now.
At 5.45pm, he came to the kitchen asking for food again.
I gave him a can of Cindy’s Tender Chicken – he ate. This time I mixed some home-cooked food in it – he didn’t mind it. He continued eating.
So tasty that even Ginger wants to share?
Aww…isn’t this cute?
I had a feeling that Vincent is going back to his old foods now, so I decided to try putting some Cubgrub on top of his food. So far, he has t...

Vincent Eats Canned Food As Well! 24th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
When I came back from work today, Vincent asked for food again.
I offered raw food – no. Cindy’s tuna – no.
Hmm…what did he want now. I hope he is not going to play the staring game again. It can be quite frustrating….
He walked away from both foods and went to drink water – this usually means I’ve got it all wrong and he’s going to leave the kitchen (if he still wants me to get it right, he would stay until I offer more options).&nbs...

Vincent Entertains Guests 24th Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Last night, we had a family dinner at our home. And Vincent came and joined us all in the kitchen when we ate dinner!
This is what he used to do back in the day. Whenever we have guests, he would be the ever sociable host, but this is provided the guest is a good person and preferably, an animal lover (cats can smell them out and they are spot-on in this). If not, Vincent won’t “layan” at all, he’d just watch from a distance. But if yes, wow…Vincent wou...

Vincent Takes His Medicines 23rd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Soon, it was medicine time for Vincent. I had earlier given him that tiny one-eighth of the Metrogyl. That wasn’t a problem.
But for the antacid, it’s a liquid and the dosage was 2ml – I needed help for this. This is especially so when the vet already said cats don’t like the taste and are known to start foaming.
Surprisingly, Vincent took it with minimal struggle.
There’s just a wee bit at the lips. This is not bad at all. Hope it helps him.
The cream comes ...

Vincent’s Urine Test And More Tests 23rd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
The topic of hyperthyroidism as a possibility of something which Vincent might came up in our discussion and Vincent’s vet said I could get the test done at another clinic if I wanted to though he didn’t think Vincent had it. He also did not have the test.
I did want to rule that out. So, we went to get that done today.
It was quite a long way, and I had to totally rely on Waze. Waze and I don’t exactly have a good relationship, unfortunately. But thankfully, we got there.
Wai...

Vincent’s Breakfast 23rd Sep 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent came into the kitchen to ask for food at about 8.00am this morning.
He only wanted this raw meat and liver.
l tried giving only raw meat, but he wouldn’t eat it until I put a slice or liver on top.
Earlier on, I had prepared a “special batch” of raw food for him (laced with probiotics). I know he won’t eat it if the probiotics was freshly sprinkled, so I decided to try “marinating” the food with probiotics.
Vincent finished his first batch (without p...
