Vincent’s Sardine Dinner Treat 4th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent wasn’t interested at all when I steamed the sardines and chicken this afternoon, but he came into the kitchen at about 6pm.
I tried my new “recipe” of steamed sardines and chicken (yes, both together).
Oooh…Vincent started eating!!
https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/uploa ds/2018/12/19-vdio.mp4
He ate SO much!! I felt like stopping him because I was afraid he might vomit again. But how can you stop him, right?
I decided to let him eat since he was enjoyin...

Vincent’s Day 4th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
We started the day at 4am this morning. Actually, before that, as Vincent jumped up to sleep beside me at 1.30am.
4.30am – Vincent was hungry and ate a lot. This morning, he wanted home-cooked food! I am glad I thawed a batch last night.
I also very quickly steamed some chicken for him as I know he likes to lick up soup. I put spoonfuls of chicken soup (with cooked liver) into his plate and Vincent licked it all up. I must go get more chicken today, to make chicken essence for Vincent. I...

Vincent’s Dinner 3rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
I waited until 7pm before serving dinner.
I had, on hand, steamed chicken, Monge’s two flavours (which worked at lunch time) and the new Cindy’s Mackerel.
Monge’s two flavours worked!!
Vincent ate heartily and I took a chance and placed a spoonful of mackerel in his plate. Initially, he did not want any of it, but later, decided to try…and he ate it!
After he was done with his Monge, he even went over to Heidi’s bowl and ate her mackerel!
I only managed to give ...

Handling And Taking Photos Of Feral Animals 3rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
This is a gentle reminder to all applicants to handle neutered animals gently, especially when taking photos of the surgical scar after surgery.
We totally empathise that it is not easy to handle feral animals, what more, one that has just gone through surgery.
So, to all applicants of our fund, our requirements are:
While we ask for the photo of the surgical scar as well as a photo of the animal after he/she has awakened from surgery, please take note that these two CAN be two separate photos....

“Stray-Free” Vs “Stray-Friendly” – Writing Again! 3rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
In October 2013, I wrote this: https://myanimalcare.org/2013/10/25/str ay-free-vs-stray-friendly/
What I wrote back then is still relevant, so let me just cut and paste what I wrote, with some editing:
Recently, a lot of people forwarded a petition to us urging us to sign it. It was lobbying for a “stray-free” community. Many rescuers and animal caregivers signed it but I did wonder if they knew what they were signing for.
Just as in bank documents and legal letters, it is reall...

Vincent’s Day 3rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
5.22am
Vincent came to sleep next to me at 2.30am and that woke me up, but I managed to get back to sleep. He hasn’t done this for a long time now, so I hope it’s a sign of his confidence (and hopefully, wellbeing).
We came downstairs at 4am and Vincent looked hungry, so I quickly opened a can of Monge (hoping to “hit it right” with the flavour).
Yes, I did!!
It was Monge’s Chicken with Omelette and White Bait, and Vincent ate…instantly!
I noticed he loves g...

December – A Breath Of Fresh Air!! 3rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
December 2018 is really a breath of fresh air for me, in particular, as far as running AnimalCare is concerned.
First of all, I must thank the few friends who stepped up to help me out when I realised that AnimalCare policies needed to be tightened up and fine-tuned. We have been working around the clock (yes, literally!) since the end of October to do this.
The maximum claim of RM200 per week per applicant was enforced on 1st December. Along with it, we have also implemented the maximum total c...

Vincent’s Day At Home 2nd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
It was lunch time and Vincent was upstairs, so I placed his plate of food in front of him and walked away.
Yes, he started eating!
And I slowly walked into the room and I even took a nap while waiting for him to eat. I think I must have slept for at least 15 minutes and when I woke up, he was still eating!
https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/upload s/2018/12/WhatsApp-Video-2018-12-02-at-13.35.34.mp 4
Hungry!
Off to the toilet, after eating.
Nice to be home!
Some wefies.
We left out for tai...

Vincent Is Home! 2nd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
We were at the vet’s this morning to take Vincent home. He hasn’t had any loose stools already so that’s good and he has his appetite back.
The vet showed me how to hold Vincent’s head in place so that the pill popper can be used. Vincent did get a shock but that’s “okay”, and is certainly better than all the violent struggle previously when I used my finger to do it. It was just a 1-2 second “shock”.
The IV was removed and I had brought fres...

Preparing For Vincent To Come Home 2nd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
I’ve set up the cage for Vincent to have his meals in privacy.
Ginger will almost surely try to disturb and intimidate him, so the option of putting Ginger into Bunny’s Place while Vincent eats remains open. After all, doesn’t Ginger LOVE going into Bunny’s Room? Indy and the girls will not beat him up, so it should be okay.
I hope Vincent’s “loose stools” problem can be settled today so that he can come home. While it’s true that he has better me...

Cow’s Forewarning Of “impending Doom”…continues 2nd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Cow did eat breakfast today. It was business as usual.
But he sneaked into the room after that…
…and refused to go out.
Is there something you would like to tell us, Cow?
Meanwhile, because Cow is inside, the girls refuse to come in.
Cleo: He sprays all over and stinks up the room. It’s so unfair. What “impending doom” are you talking about? He just wants that happy face pillow. If he wants it so much, just give it to him…out in the patio. Please!

Cow, What Are You Trying To Tell Us? 1st Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Since yesterday, Cow had been trying to tell us something…
He was fidgety and he wanted to come into the room to get out to the rest of the house.
This morning, he would rather forgo breakfast to just get into the room. It was most strange. Cow never forgoes a meal.
Cow came into the room and sat. He’d rather not eat.
See? He didn’t want his food.
Cleo went for the “extras”.
I had to carry Cow out so that he could eat.
He did eat later, for lunch and dinner, bu...

Visiting Vincent (Day 3) 1st Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Today is Day 3 for Vincent at the clinic.
Hi, Vincent!!
The vet says Vincent had some loose stools this morning, so he cannot be discharged yet. Most likely tomorrow then.
The drooling is still pretty bad.
Sigh…this mouth/gum problem must have started quite a long time ago. Two years ago, in 2016, Vincent was discovered to have stomatitis. He had two surgeries to remove some teeth. They were good teeth, but had to be removed because the gums around his teeth reacted very badly and would...

A Blanket For A Bride (no. 208) 30th Nov 2018, by AnimalCare
208 – What a lucky number, in the Chinese culture!
This blanket was ordered by our very dear anonymous donor, as a bridal gift for her vet.
Our friend bought the five types of fabric herself and she says they are colours from the cultural background of her vet.
The dark purple “grape” design also has unending links, both symbolises fertility and an “unending” relationship.
The turquoise backing is because turquoise is her vet’s favourite colour.
Truly, the fa...
