https://www.thestar.com.my/news/nation/2018/12/25/ dr-m-takes-a-break-with-a-street-cat-named-bob/
&l dquo;I haven’t had the time to catch up on my reading for a while. ‘A street cat named Bob’ – one of my favourite books,” was what Dr Mahathir captioned for the two pictures posted on his Facebook.
‘A street cat named Bob’ by author James Bowen is a moving, uplifting true story of an unlikely friendship between a man on the streets and the ginger cat who...

Little By Little…and That Would Be Enough 27th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
This is based on a news report I shared in July 2014 and the link no longer works now, so permit me, please, to share part of the article:
Yang Yu Lan diligently stitches bits of cloth, which she collects from neighbours, into floor mats. The 84-year-old grandmother’s sewing machine has broken down, so she hand-sews these mats, which she sells or trades for essential items like shampoo, toothpaste and soap with sundry shop owners.
As dawn breaks, she tends to her farm and she harvests what...

Vincent’s Tales 26th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
The story starts from yesterday….
Vincent wanted to eat out at the patio yesterday.
Tabs: No, I did not finish that jar of Christmas cookies. The humans did that. Not me.
Buddy is here every day now. He is no longer afraid of humans.
Vincent’s appetite has been good. I wonder if it’s because I managed to give him Azodyl now. Vincent’s medication protocol is now as follows:
Morning: 1/3 tablet Fortekor, 1 capsule Azodyl, 2.8ml Kaminox.
Evening: 1 capsule Azodyl, 2.8ml...

Vincent, Buddy, Ginger And Everyone 24th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent had a feast for breakfast today. He cannot seem to eat too much of a certain type of food and he wants variety.
We started with Cubgrub Duck, then Cubgrub Chicken, then Monge (three flavours) and kibble.
Vincent takes the longest to eat, and he also eats the most.
Tabs: They say I’m fat, so I’m on a diet.
Indeed, Tabs only ate a little bit. “Little bit”, of course, is subjective.
This is how Vincent tells me he wants another type of food.
So, he had all...

Vincent’s Attempted Escape At The Park 23rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Being a Sunday, I thought it would be safe to take Vincent to the park.
As before, he stayed by me.
https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/uploads/2 018/12/WhatsApp-Video-2018-12-23-at-08.55.22.mp4
H e likes rubbing himself on the concrete.
I thought he would be all settled and happy just being at the playground, but luckily I did nothing but keep both eyes firmly on him.
Suddenly, he tried to make a dash. My goodness…it happened so fast, but I caught him.
Then, he wanted to struggle loos...

The 5th Darbepoetin Jab (Vincent’s Condition) 23rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
I didn’t know there was a 5th Darbepoetin jab, but today’s the 5th.
Vincent’s PCV blood test result showed a slight improvement, from last week’s 18% to 21% today. This is encouraging.
However, his creatinine level has shot up to 580 from the previous 238 and this is not good. The vet also felt his kidneys and they have shrunk further. Both sides too. The prognosis isn’t too good but the vet wasn’t totally surprised as this is, sadly, “expected” of...

A True Blue CNRMer – Thank You So Much, Kind Sir! 23rd Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
I had a great start to this morning!
There was a RM250 donation to our Fund, and it was banked in by one of our newest applicant.
I’m so lost for words right now….and I don’t know where to begin to tell his story.
He started helping dogs on 31st August this year. Yes, only this year. He’s absolutely new in this.
When he heard about our Fund through another long-time applicant (thanks to Facebook), he contacted me and asked if he is eligible to apply. On the very same day...

What Is Vincent’s Stand On Buddy? 21st Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent did not want to eat with everyone this morning. He went out to the patio to check on things first.
After everyone had eaten (kitchen group and the Cow Clan), Vincent came to call me.
He was ready for breakfast now. Duty done.
Cubgrub Duck and Monge Chicken.
And kibble.
He didn’t finish his wetfood and went for the kibble. Finally, after I put everything into one plate, he almost finished everything!
Ginger and Heidi came for snacks too.
Tabs: Not me. I’m told I&rsquo...

The (sometimes) Tricky Ear Notch 20th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
The response to our new policy of making ear-notching compulsory for all female cats (if claimed from us) was a positive one. So far, everyone has agreed to it and in fact, they have been ear-notching all this while too.
We also explained why we prefer the V-notch to the flat tip for the simple reason that the flat tip could be the result of fights whereas the V-notch is more likely to be a deliberate notching by the vet.
But let me show you some examples of the trickiness of ear-notching.
This...

A New Kid On The Block – The Young Ginger Cat 20th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
We had a very brave visitor today…
It’s the little ginger cat whom Cleo had a fight with last night.
He either does not know danger (yet) or is just very brave as he marched right in.
Or maybe he senses no danger?
Buddy is still being careful. And he eats at our porch almost daily. He’s been coming for months now but I’ve never been out when he’s around.
Here is the little fellow.
Ginger is not too pleased.
Buddy approaches.
I put out two bowls – one fo...

Vincent’s Day 20th Dec 2018, by AnimalCare
Vincent had a surprise for lunch – Primal Turkey!
So he had Primal Turkey and Cubgrub Duck.
Then, he disappeared and gave me a scare of my life. I went out to the road to search for him as well. That would be one of the scariest half hour of my entire life, more scary than anything I’ve experienced in recent years.
Finally found him here.
The thing with cats is they don’t come out when they are called.
You look for me, I’ll just stay here and be comfortable.
Vincent i...
