Tigers Have Been Around For A Very Long Time. The .. 30th Jul 2019, by Roots & Shoots Malaysia
🐯Tigers have been around for a very long time. The oldest tiger fossils found are over 2 million years old! Less than a hundred years ago, tigers could be found across Asia.
Sadly, deforestation, hunting and poaching have decimated their numbers. It is sad to think that a species that has survived for millions of years can be wiped out over a few generations.
Thankfully for the Malayan Tiger, positive changes are being made to try and halt their rapidly depleting numbers. Well done to the...

Besides Feeding The Sun Bears, Our Volunteer, Hui .. 26th Jul 2019, by Roots & Shoots Malaysia
Besides feeding the sun bears, our volunteer, Hui Wen at Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC) also helped to create enrichment programmes for the sun bears to reduce their stress level and prevent boredom 🐻
For example, banana leaves are good for the sun bears teeth as it cleans them 🦷 whereas the bouquet of ginger leaves with peanut butter hidden in the middle of the bunch is for the sun bears to try and eat all the peanut butter in the center... it's just like a puzzle! 🤪

This Is Sunbearo, One Of The Resident Sun Bears At.. 24th Jul 2019, by Roots & Shoots Malaysia
This is Sunbearo, one of the resident sun bears at Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre🐻. Before feeding time, he likes to climb a tree where he waits to be fed. Sadly, a sun-bear's tree-climbing skills aren't enough to protect them. Despite being the least known bear species, sun bears face many threats to their survival. Some of the threats are being continuously poached for Asian Traditional Medicine and for exotic meat. 😞
Sun bears are a “Totally Protected” species. Those found i...

When We Say The Word 'Bear', Most Of Us Might Imme.. 22nd Jul 2019, by Roots & Shoots Malaysia
When we say the word 'bear', most of us might immediately think of 🐻 the brown bear species. Did you know that Malaysia and parts of South East Asia have a bear species unique to us? It's the sun bear!
They're the smallest living bear species in the world, have very short fur to adapt to the warm climate and possess large, sickle-shaped claws to climb trees and dig/rip apart decayed wood to reach for ants, termites and beetle grubs.
Thank you to @wen.nny for photos 📷
