BASF Kids Fun Day @ Gebeng 3rd Jan 2019, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
On 1st December 2018, we were invited by BASF Gebeng and MNS Pahang to co-organise a Kids Fun Day. We had a turtle mosaic making session, and kids had fun colouring their 3D turtle paper maches. 2018 Had Been An Amazing Year For Us We Received A.. 1st Jan 2019, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
2018 had been an amazing year for us! We received a small grant to do a survey, from which we found a small population of terrapins in a location that had not been documented. And then we scored a bigger grant for a two-year awareness programmes. The "Turtles of Malaysia" brochure that we had been working on for 1.5 years was finally published, and received very good responses too! We met very kind and generous people, and went on to produce a terrapin conservation calendar that we're very proud...

He said he confronted then Selangor menteri besar Mohamad Khir Toyo who had approved the [Kota Damansara forest reserve] area for housing.
“I told him, Yang Berhormat, that is the oldest forest reserve in the country, and if you bulldoze that, I’m going to tie myself to the first tree that you will fell, and my life will be in your hands.”
Salleh said after Khir’s administration was defeated in the 2008 general election, the area was re-gazetted as a forest reserve.

Its Taxatuesday And The Last Genus Of Freshwater T.. 18th Dec 2018, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
It’s #TaxaTuesday and the last Genus of freshwater turtles found in Malaysia is Siebenrockiella.
Siebenrockiella used to be monotypic, having only S. crassicollis (Black Marsh Turtle). Then, another species, S. leytensis (Philippine Forest Turtle) was added under this Genus.
S. crassicollis is native to Malaysia. Black Marsh turtle is listed as ‘Vulnerable’ under the IUCN Red List. Their population is declining due to direct exploitation and habitat loss.

It’s #TaxaTuesday again! We are at the 7th Genus found in Malaysia, Orlitia, also a monotypic genus with only 1 species (O. borneensis).
O. borneensis, also known as Malaysian Giant Terrapin, is an endangered species listed under the IUCN Red List. Their population is declining due to the illegal international trade for their meat.
