4,000 Baby Tortoises Worth Nearly Rm1mil Seized 5th Feb 2020, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
"A total of 4,000 live baby freshwater tortoises worth nearly RM1mil and tightly packed in containers were seized at Tawau’s Sungai Haji Kuning rivermouth...
... The freshwater baby tortoises were smuggled into Tawau to be taken to Semporna about 100kms away, said DSP Nazari."

These are pig-nosed turtles, also known as fly river turtles, Carettochelys insculpta, and they are native to Australia and Papua New Guinea.

We are gearing up for the next terrapin nesting season here in Kemaman. Our Terrapin Guardians have just built a basic off-the-ground campsite for themselves and our interns.

And we have incubated our first nest of 11 eggs! Please pray that we'll continue to collect many eggs this year (last year we incubated 1,012 eggs).

A few days ago, we spotted a few female river terrapins checking out one of the nesting banks along the Kemaman river. Our local community teams are making preparations for this coming nesting season (which is just around the corner!).
