Last year, Ethan participated in a competition to design something small and useful that could be made from plastic wastes to raise awareness on turtle conservation.
Ethan and his family came up with a few ideas and then decided to work on a small, recycled plastic pocket to store face masks, which could also b...

Never Underestimate A Child When They're Actively .. 20th Feb 2022, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
Never underestimate a child when they're actively observing and learning.
Five years ago, Jenna and her mother participated in our Turtle Discovery Trip. It was off-peak, there were no other families, so we spent 2 days together, talking, laughing and joking about all things turtles.
Back in school, Jenna made a poster of her trip to the east coast, where she told her teachers and friends about her trip. It wasn't just eye-opening for a 4-year-old, it was magical.
And just recently, Jenna's M...

We're Getting Ready For The Upcoming Terrapin Nest.. 22nd Jan 2022, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
We're getting ready for the upcoming terrapin nesting season!
Every year, female terrapins emerge to nest in January/February. The nesting season is pretty short, with an average of 30.3 days. Green turtles, on the other hand, have been observed to nest for up to 3-4 months in a season.
Our Terrapin Guardians are making the necessary preparations, i.e. clearing some vegetation to make a path to the riverbank. This ensures that our Terrapin Guardians do not slip on their way down to the river i...

Turtles Yes, Including Sea Turtles, Freshwater Tur.. 18th Jan 2022, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
Turtles (yes, including sea turtles, freshwater turtles and terrestrial tortoises) are shielded from predators by an outer shell.
The top shell is called the "carapace," and underneath the carapace is the bone structure. Just like our bones, it is made up of living cells. So, as the grow, the shell will also grow along with the turtle's body size.

Most Female Turtles Will Choose A Strategic Place .. 3rd Jan 2022, by Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia
Most female turtles will choose a strategic place on the beach or a nesting bank, and then proceed to lay their eggs in a hole that they dig.
Then, right after that until they hatch, the turtle hatchlings will be on their own, with no mother to care for them.
Adaptation to this behaviour allows turtles to lay many eggs. In fact, some marine turtle species can lay more than 10 clutches of eggs in a single nesting season!
