We are joining forces with Gerakbudaya to co-host a Turtle Talk & Batik Painting Workshop to celebrate the diversity of turtle species in Malaysia and spread turtle conservation awareness.
The programme includes an interactive exploration talk on turtles of Malaysia, followed by a hands-on batik painting session. There will be a mini exhibition of freshwater turtle specimens too! ๐ข๐จ๐

The oldest turtle fossil had been found in China and it was estimated to be 220 million years old! โ

Turtles have been on Earth for millions of years since the Triassic period, which means they have been around since the dinosaur era. Like the dinosaurs, the prehistoric turtles were massive, larger than the modern, extant turtles.

If you've visited us, you'd notice that there are pieces of driftwoods in our head starting pond.
This is why we provide driftwoods in our tanks/ponds. For the terrapins to bask! ๐๐ป
Terrapins are cold-blooded, so they can't control their body temperature internally. They bask to absorb warmth and vital UV rays. They also often stretch out their legs to absorb additional heat.

This is because their metabolic rate slows down when they're sleeping, allowing them to use oxygen more efficiently, which allows them to remain underwater for hours before they need to surface again to change their air. โ

Last week, we had the honour of hosting H. E. Charles Hay, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia at our River Terrapin Conservation Centre.
H. E. Charles was on an official visit to Terengganu, and had made the first pit-stop in Kemaman.
We provided H. E. Charles an introduction to our terrapin conservation efforts as well as our women empowerment initiative that supports and empowers the local women to be financially independent.

Over the next ten years, the amount of marine plastics will double up the ocean if we do not act today.
