Next up is the Painted Terrapin (Batagur borneoensis). This #turtle is closely related to the river terrapin, but they lay their eggs and make their nests on coastal beaches, unlike the river terrapin which lays eggs on riverbanks. In the mating season, which is from January to June, heads of males turn white with a bright red stripe between the eyes, and the usually brown shell lightens with three thick, black stripes running down the shell, making them very attractive to females!
