Some good news to end the year. We have just received word that Malaysia's new Animal Welfare Act 2015 which was tabled and passed in Parliament last July will be gazetted tomorrow December 29th 2015. This Act is much more comprehensive than the previous one and fills in huge gaps in the previous act which left animals unprotected and activists unable to help them. We currently have 2 dogs for adoption, one a miniature breed and the other a stray.
Rafael,a mixed silky terrier weighs about 6kgs and is about 2 years old. He was abandoned with his small cage in front of the shelter.His fur was matted and we had to shave him.It seemed to us that he may have been living in his cage without being let out as he had a rounded back for the first two days but he behaved like a normal dog after two days of being out and running around.He is a very active dog but when...

We have good news for dogs on this island. The government is currently offering rabies vaccination at only RM5 per dog. Your dog/dogs will automatically receive an identification collar at the same time. We do not know how long this 'offer' will go on, but we strongly advise dog owners to get their dogs vaccinated within this month. We have just been informed that several dogs were rounded up by council workers in a residential area here last week and killed on the spot. We cannot even imagine the fear and pain they felt. Please remember that this is NOT a dog-friendly island. Do not under any circumstances allow your dog to run around freely outside the compound of your own home.
