Dog Meat Smuggler Arrested! 12 dogs were recovered on the afternoon of November 20th from a smuggler apprehended by local police in the Mahasarakram Province, Khosumpisai District.
A pickup truck was stopped at a check point by local police. The back of the pickup was modified with a carefully concealed storage area hidden under the wooden sheets. On November 14 to16, Humane Society International (HSI) provided a training workshop on using nets to catch street dogs. The workshop, which was hosted by Soi Dog at its shelter on Phuket, was attended by dog handlers from two other Thai animal welfare organizations as well as Soi Dog’s own animal handlers and other staff. Today was the Buddhist funeral to pay tribute to PECK at Temple Khlong Toei Nai. It was beautiful and peaceful. I still have 30 rescued animals at home and Ta-Phet, the blind dog I recently rescued, who is waiting to be operated. I have to be strong and be there for them. Shant i is one of our saddest cases. She arrrived in 2007 with terrible skin problems & despite constant treatment showed little improvement. She then devleloped cancerous tumours on her leg which caused her great discomfort so we decided to amputate.

Six lucky dogs rescued from the Illegal Dog Meat Trade have just travelled half way round the world to their new homes in the UK. Our fantastic Flight Volunteers (Izzy & Zat) accompanied the six dogs to Holland & then on a ferry across to the UK.The lucky dogs were Odie, Fay, Mia, Lucky, Lucy & Envelope! Yong is more than 12 years of age and one of the oldest dogs at the shelter. She was found at Nai Harn beach in 2010 wandering around dis-orientated, suffering fungal infection & severely malnourished. We also soon discovered she is almost totally blind.
Yong has spent almost her entire life as a street dog & is now safe at Soi Dog where she has full time care, food & shelter. She loves to sleep all day long & enjoys her own company.

NONG THAM UPDATE!
Our vets report that Nong Tham is now eating, drinking & feeling much better. The wound is healing nicely & is a vast improvement in just 3 days!
This cute 8 week old puppy was brought to the shelter a few days ago with a deep wound to his left eye which was badly swollen & had become maggot infested.
