Farewell "Siiaan" Old Friend...

FAREWELL SIIAAN, OLD FRIEND....
A few days ago one of the best known dogs at the shelter "Siiaan" passed away peacefully. Siiaan's was tragically disfigured following a road accident many years ago, where a mini bus ran over his face. Over the last few months Siiaan developed an in-operable mouth tumor & his condition gradually worsened. Siiaan never lost his zest for life & continued to cry with delight when visitors came & gave him cuddles. Siiaan especially loved the ladies!

Playtime With "Rowdy"

A few months ago "Rowdy" was dumped in front of the Soi Dog Shelter with some other puppies. Obviously unwanted, we took them in and made sure that they were safe and well. Rowdy who is 8 months old really shouldn't be at the shelter as she is so loving and energetic. We would really like to find her a loving home before she gets too used to shelter life. A documentary called “OVERSIZED DOGS: Chinese Dog Laws And The People Who Break Them” is currently being produced. The film is about China's dog laws and height restrictions, and portrays ordinary Chinese citizens who quietly disobey the law by raising their 'oversized' dogs in Beijing. It reveals the existence of a 'secret dog society' and the dangers dog owners will undertake out of love for their animals.

A follow up to yesterday evenings arrest of dog smugglers from The Nation (Bangkok Newspaper)
"A gang of dog traffickers has been arrested by a Mekong River patrol unit in Nong Khai province.
Three persons, including two dog sellers and one buyer, were arrested by the Mekong River Operation Unit as they were bargaining the price of dogs.
The sellers reportedly came in two pickup trucks, with about 90 dogs between them to sell. One of the sellers said he had gone through villages to acquire un...

More Dog Smugglers Arrested!
Following yesterday’s early morning raid on a dog meat processing factory (see: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.51532805 5175601.1073741879.108625789179165&type=1 ) last night Royal Thai Police officers arrested 3 dog smugglers and seized 2 pick-up trucks with approximately 80 dogs on board in the Kosum Phisai district of Maha Sarakham Province (Thailand).
The dogs are temporarily being taken to a quarantine centre in Maha Saraham.

Awareness of the illegal dog meat trade within Thailand as well as internationally has grown significantly. In late April and early March four smuggling operations were intercepted by the Royal Thai Police. In just a few short weeks after another six operations have been stopped!
