I am a medium sized girl nearly 4 years old and I came to the Soi Dog Phuket shelter when I was only a 3month old pup with my mother.
We had been living in an area where we were not wanted, so people hit and kicked us to try and make us go away. This was very traumatic for both of us and it made me afraid of some people.

Hogi is one of the many dogs at the shelter suffer from recurring skin infections, requiring constant medication. Hogi is a sweet dog living in Soi Dog's old age area.
Animal Rescue Officer Khun Nok found her on the streets several years ago, totally bald.
Hogi, while a very happy dog, suffers from severe skin problems and requires very regular and very expensive skin treatment. She is in considerably better shape than when first found.

My name is Dewar and I am a 4 year old girl. I was found on a beach by some kind people who fed the many beach dogs every day.
They had never seen me there before and were worried that the other dogs would attack me for being on their territory. They could also see that I looked very unwell.
I was brought to the Soi Dog shelter, extremely weak and very skinny. I had discharge from both my eyes and cataracts in both. I had a bad case of mange and a fungal skin infection.

Life gets tough when you are an older street dog like me. I have never known what it’s like to have an owner or a home of my own. I have spent my life fighting to survive, to find enough food and somewhere safe to sleep.

Shakey Joy was dumped over the fence of the clinic in 2005 and has lived at the shelter ever since. She has obvious signs of having suffered from distemper at some point, which has left her with a permanent shake.
Shakey Joy is now getting on a bit and lives in the Old Age Run where she spends a lot of her time sleeping on the sala overlooking the lake, and loves going for walks and having cuddles with volunteers.

We recently introduced you to “The Worst Shelter in the World”, also known as “Dog Condo”, based at Bangkok’s Suan Kaew temple.
“Dog Condo” came into existence with the best of intentions. Suan Kaew is a famous Bangkok temple, with its own charitable foundation and the abbot, Phra Payom Kallayano, is well respected for his good works.
When a cull on Bangkok’s street dogs began prior to the 2003 APEC conference, Phra Payom ordered the construction of a shelter to save them.
