Life can be hard when you live on the streets. There is no warm bed at night; no human to love and care for you. My name is Cheaka and I have lived like this for 8 years.
I arrived at the Soi Dog shelter with very old injuries; I can no longer remember how I got them. I was covered in bite wounds and had an old fracture in my left back leg. I am having trouble putting any weight on this leg.

I am a 5 year old boy called Arsenault and I am so very sick right now. I was brought to Soi Dog by a kind lady who found me.
I have been a stray cat all my life; there are so many of us who live like this. I now have something called stomatitis, which is a sickness in my mouth.
The vets say it is my immune system reacting to so much plaque in my mouth. My tongue is covered in ulcers and all my gums are inflamed.

Soi Dog treats and sterilises over 1,000 dogs and cats each month. Many of these dogs and cats require lifesaving, emergency treatment.
One such dog was Vita. Rescued from the streets with a horrendous case of sarcoptic mange and a fungal skin infection, she was desperately ill. Frighteningly skinny and weak, she had lost all her beautiful fur.

I have been at the Soi Dog shelter for over 3½ years. My name is See-Nin, but you can call me Batman as I look just like him.
I came to Soi Dog with a broken hip, a spinal injury, and wasted muscles in my back legs. The vets nursed me back to health and I slowly learnt to trust people.

My short life to date has been lived on the streets of Phuket, Thailand. I am only 5 months of age and my innocent world was shattered the day I was hit by a car.

Did you know that Soi Dog also rescues, sterilises and cares for thousands of cats each year?
Se Kam, pictured below, is just one of them. She was dumped on the street when she was no longer wanted. A tough situation for any cat, but Se Kam had an extra challenge – she is blind.
Thanks to the Soi Dog supporters who have joined our Care for Cats Club, Se Kam was rescued and taken to our shelter. She has since been adopted and finally has her forever home.

Planning a trip to Thailand and a visit to Soi Dog? Soi Dog welcomes visitors and our shelter is open Monday to Friday, 9.00am to midday and again from 1.00pm to 3.30pm.
Guided tours happen 3 times a day: 9.30am, 11.00am and the last one at 1.30pm. Do ensure you arrive in advance of one of these times and you will be given a tour of our shelter and get to meet many of the animals in our care.
