The following account comes from the Sarajevo-based rescue team Andejo Sarajevo:
"Today we received a phone call from this woman, who was crying on the phone, begging us to help her because she has about 30 cats and some dogs that she`s been feeding. SUNBURNS & CANCER: HOW TO PROTECT YOUR PET
Did you know your pet's fur may not be enough to protect from sun damage.
"Just because a dog has a coat of fur, it doesn’t mean that it is protected from the sun’s rays." Dr. Laura Stokking, a veterinary dermatology told UT San Diego. "Even a thick fur coat isn’t enough protection. Constant sun exposure can result in painful sunburns, skin ulcers, cancer and permanent skin damage. Some breeds are more susceptible to sunburn, like those that ar...

WATER INTOXICATION:
YOUR DOG NEEDS YOUR PROTECTION
Water intoxication can happen rather quickly when playing fetch with your dog in the water. Some dogs will swallow large quantities of water while they play, especially when the dogs are diving with an open mouth.
Here's what happens on the inside. Drinking too much brings electrolyte levels dangerously low and leads to thinning of the blood plasma and leading to swelling of the brain and other organs. Symptoms include lethargy, bloating, vom...

THROW BACK THURSDAY:
Meet Lee Salter. He and his wife Linda were the first official Harmony Fund supporters nearly 4 years ago today. Their dog Bailee, seen here, spends her whole day at Lee's heals. Baileee's early years were quite neglectful and she doesn't want to take her eyes off the people who took her in and offer her unconditional love!
Thank you Lee & Linda for giving us our start. And thank you everyone out there who is sponsoring the rescue and care of thousands of animals all acr...

99-year-old Dobi Dobrev lost most of his hearing during World War II but he seems to have greater senses than those around him. He lives in Bulgaria and he's known locally as Saint Dobrev. He spends his days asking people for money, but he doesn’t keep any of it for himself. Every bit he collects goes straight to the orphans.

IS THERE A MONSTER IN YOUR PET'S BOWLS?
* Please SHARE This Post Widely *
If you simply top off your pet's water dish, you could be creating a monster that will attack your pet from the inside out. Many of us are guilty of simply refilling the water bowl when it gets close to empty, but the water that sits around will form a slimy residue that hosts dangerous bacteria and fungus will begin to grow. Some pet guardians may not even notice that their pet will start shying away from a dirty water b...

"WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I KNOCKED OVER THE BOWL OF CAT FOOD?"
Well, anyone who manages a feral cat colony will tell you that the local wildlife will take part in the buffet from time to time. This gorgeous raccoon was caught in the act at a Harmony Fund feeding station for a pair of elderly feral cats.
(Naturally we don't advocate feeding wild animals. But they will occasionally find a feral cat feeding station)
