It's been 8 years since Steve Irwin's passing, but the Australia Zoo's Wildlife Hospital carries on his legacy better than ever - as exhibited by the rescue of this Red-Bellied Black Snake trapped in a discarded soda can. The snake was cut free of the can and treated briefly at the hospital before release.
"I have a message for my fans," Steve said shortly before his death. "Whatever you want to do in this world, it is achievable. The most important thing that I've found, that perhaps you coul...

1-DAY-OLD CHICKS SHIPPED BY MAIL
Yesterday I was at the post office and heard the familiar sound of newly hatched chicks. They were calling out from inside a pair of cardboard boxes on the counter. No mama. No food. No water. Yes, the shipping of live, day-old baby chicks is a booming business in the States. I noted that the boxes had a website address for MyPetChicken.com. Here's what the company has to say about the ordeal the chicks go through:
"When you get them home, be prepared: one or t...

FALLING TO OUR KNEES
It's been one very beautiful summer raining miracles, one after another, right there in the light of day. So many rescues have jumped from your fingertips over to animals thousands of miles away. Honestly, not a day goes by that we don't fall to our knees and give thanks, deep thanks, for our astonishingly kind supporters. As the Dalai Lama once said, "The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness."
Thousands of dogs and cats in 'underdog' rescue c...

OFFICER'S BEST WEAPON IS A WOMAN'S PURSE
How He Used It To Save A Drowning Kitten.....
When he was called to help a near-drowning kitten trapped in a storm drain, Police Officer Jamie Williamson had to be resourceful. The storm drain was full from heavy rain that fell the day before and the kitten was clearly tiring of trying to stay afloat. With no time to wait for the public works department to open the grate, Officer Williamson fashioned an on-the-spot kitten catcher to reach the water leve...

POWERFUL WORDS FROM ROMANIAN RESCUER
"Regimes and politics will have a finite existence. They will pass. The fires of hatred too will diminish in the cool wind of time. But there is one whose existence is eternal, beyond politics, beyond borders, beyond allegiances, beyond nationalism, beyond existence. The greatest power which we have, the power of love... for one another... for our fellow creatures."
- Carmen Dodi of the Bobi Tantava Pet Sanctuary in Transylvania

PUPPY SAVES 3-YEAR-OLD LOST IN SIBERIAN BEAR COUNTRY
Never underestimate the power of a puppy. A three-year-old girl who had spent 11 days in a Siberian forest was just saved after her puppy led rescuers to her.
In the remote Sakha Republic, a place that is home to many bears and wolves, the toddler somehow stayed alive on river water and berries with the puppy by her side. With overnight temperatures dipping dangerously low, her family feared the worse.
Two days before she was rescued, the p...

FINDING THEIR BLISS: WHAT ABOUT YOUR PETS?
What brings bliss to your rescued pets? Is it simply finding a lovely spring of dried leaves on the catnip plant in the garden. Or perhaps noticing that the dog has dug the perfect bunny hollow under the raised planter.
Today we can't help but notice just how much joy the Harmony Fund's most recent rescued animals are experiencing. We simply can't wait to have our own sanctuary to take in many, many more. A HUGE thanks to all of you who are helping...
