TORNADO LEADS TO OWLET RESCUE
"These babies were found by our maintenance crew during tornado cleanup," Byron Forest Preserve reported last week after an F-4 twister tore through Ogle County, Oregon. "Since so many trees were destroyed, we're assuming their parents are gone and they haven't had any nourishment in awhile. Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab will be picking them up today to nurse them back to health."

SPAY & NEUTER CHALLENGE IS A SMASHING SUCCESS!
Last week, we held a 3-day challenge to raise funds for veterinary care for a large number of dogs who have arrived at the Prnjavor shelter in Bosnia.

SHIELDING THE DOGS FROM BOMBS, BULLETS & LAND MINES IN KIEV
We are thanking our lucky stars that the funds we've sent to the Shelter Kiev SOS will hold out for a few more months. Thanks to all of you, the dogs have enough to eat. The greater danger, right now, comes from terrorists.

DOG RETURNS LOST ITEMS TO AIRLINE PASSENGERS
This beagle is trained to return lost items to passengers in the airport. On one hand, it's unsettling to see a dog running through the airport on his own. On the other hand, the dog clearly seems to be enjoying himself and looks well cared for and proud of his job.

LITTLE BARN FOR STRAY DOGS
Yesterday we sent a donation to purchase food for a group of rescued dogs taking shelter in a rented barn and this lovely adjoining field.

GUESS WHO HE FOUND ON THE RIDE HOME FROM THE AIRPORT?

The five years Little Red spent in Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring, she was used as a “bait dog.” “Bait” animals are animals used to test a dog’s fighting skills– dogs like Little Red are often mauled or killed in the process. Little Red’s owner, Susan, never thought that Little Red needed to be rehabilitated, instead the pup needed time to recover.
