THE SECRET WE'RE KEEPING FROM TOBY...
Amila Citakovic is a volunteer in Bosnia and the little guy in her lap is named Toby. What Toby doesn't know, what none of the dogs here at the Dawn's Nest refuge know, is that there's no money for food.

This darling cat named Susie-Marousi has found the best bed in the house. You see, after surviving the Ukrainian winter on the street, she simply can't believe her good fortune to be a part of a family who loves her....to have a child her thinks she's the finest thing on earth.

HORSE DESTINED FOR "DINNER" IS RESCUED!
This horse in Bosnia was just rescued from a trader taking him to the slaughterhouse. Just a week ago, the horse was a family pet, but like so many, he was eventually sold for his weight in 'meat'. But thanks to a split-second intervention, he won't be meat. Today and tomorrow and the day after, he'll simply be a horse. For a lifetime, he'll be free to graze and gallop and feel the tickle of the meadow grass against his legs.

DOG'S SECRET TO SUMMER HAPPINESS
Awwww... That's one happy dog. Rather than walking on the hot city street, his family took him for a swim.
In the summer, walking your dog on hot pavement can contribute to overheating and possible heat stroke. Dogs naturally cool themselves through their paw pads, but when they walk on hot pavement, their body temperature rises fast and there is a serious risk of burns.

NEROS FROM ROMANIA HAS HIS FOREVER HOME!
We thought you'd like to see these snapshots of Neros. He is an elderly street dog from Romania who received some special help from Harmony Fund supporters last month when we sponsored his eye surgery.
Well now he's in his forever home in Germany, possibly his FIRST home, and he's quite content to have a family, a roof over his head and nutritious food to eat every day.
Thank you for all the happy endings you help create.

HEAT STROKE RISK HIGHER IN DOGS WITH BLACK FUR
It's true. Animals covered in dark colored fur are at greater risk of heat stroke. The darker fur absorbs more light (rather than reflecting it) and that light is converted into heat energy. A dark-furred pet will get hot much more quickly than one with lighter fur.

Last week we asked for some help with a Husky dog named Coddy who was rescued in Bosnia and needed a kennel quickly to offer shelter and protection.
