Hundreds of cats are counting on us for food. There isn't enough money to buy another 30-day supply of food on the 1st of May.People are naturally out having more fun during the warmer months and, consequently, donations drop quite a bit. It gets rather difficult to pull together enough to feed all the animals. This is a time of year when we really do worry and try our best to find good solutions.

Hundreds of cats are counting on us for food. Our Food Drive for the month is drawing to a close, but there isn't enough money to buy another 30-day supply of food on the 1st.
Truly incredible rescuers walk the streets feeding homeless cats and work long days in rescue centers to keep them safe, but without our help, the cats don't have food. Across all the countries we work in, the average cost to feed a cat or dog is about 35 cents a meal.

Our April Food Drive is in overdrive, trying to provide more than 71,000 meals to dogs and cats at 'underdog' rescue centers internationally and to provide food for homeless animals on the street. These photos from Serbia, Romania and Turkey show just a few of the faces of the animals we must feed each and every day. The cost is only about 35 cents a meal.

TINY DOG CAN'T GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO BIG FRIEND
Two months ago, both these dogs were living in a rotten pound in Romania until our rescuers bent down, stroked their cold heads and said, "You're coming with me."
The two dogs were in different kennels and never met until they arrived at the foster home of Carola Scharfschwerdt a few days ago. It seems the little one can't get enough of her new friend. In fact, the last few seconds of this video are absolutely priceless.

WHY IS THIS DOG SO HAPPY?
This dog was living in a rotten pound in Romania until something magical happened. Rescuers bent down, stroked his cold head and said, "You're coming with me."
This is what we do all year long. We rescue the animals who are suffering invisibly. This one and several others were in a remote dog pound, on the site of a garbage dump in the middle of nowhere. But there is no place too well-hidden, no river we won't cross, no mountain we won't climb.

This small sanctuary in Italy was named in memory of activist Jill Phipps who died under a truck while trying to stop the export of calves to Amsterdam.
βThese animals would have been slaughtered,β sanctuary founder Daniela Shehu explains. βThey are here safe. Each is an individual with unique characteristics. They are not bar codes, but sentient beings.β
