THE PEACEFUL SHELTER
In the heart of Egypt is a refuge like none other. The dogs here are peaceful. They aren't barking. They aren't frantic for attention. The ground isn't covered in poo. This shelter is clean and spacious and the dogs are calm.

"Tomorrow the stray dogs will be waiting for us, like they do every single day," Romanian rescuer Ioana Marascu siad. "They live in the middle of nowhere, their life is miserable and we are trying so hard to keep them on the surviving line. Sometimes when the skies darken, all it takes is a spark. Today we're taking on two different shelters, one in Bosnia and one in Romania, where dogs are being kept in significant neglect. The goal is to get authorities to allow seizure of the animals and placement with safe shelters. This work is not easy on our hearts and we certainly won't burden you with graphic details or photos. Last week we showed you four dogs in the most abominable conditions at a Romanian dog pound. No adoptions take place there. Rescue is unthinkable. Yet, here they are. We actually took 5 out (as one had an unexpected puppy with her). Sadly, the sickest of them did not survive despite amazing efforts by the veterinarian. CAT NAP ANYONE?
At the Every Life Counts shelter in Romania, Ioana Teodora Marascu snapped these amusing photos of her exhausted husband who took a break while cleaning up.
"While cleaning the kennels., the moment when you take a nap together with the cats!" Ioana teases. "I'm so sorry Bogdan but taking photos was a must."
You'd be tired too if you did what Bogdan does in a single day, caring for HUNDREDS of dogs and cats at the shelter and on the street.
