Venturing Into The Deep Forest To Set Up Camera Tr.. 16th Apr 2020, by WWF Malaysia
Venturing into the deep forest to set up camera traps in the jungle may sound like a fun camping holiday. On the contrary, the rainforest can be a harsh environment. Our wildlife warriors hack through thick undergrowth, wade through rivers and climb obstacles covered in mud, sweat, leeches, surrounded by mosquitoes and sometimes attacked by bees, all while carrying 25kg backpacks all day, every day for several days.
.
Farhan, one of our field biologists, relates one of his scariest experiences:

Deep In Malaysias Forest Of Belum-Temengor, Deadly.. 10th Apr 2020, by WWF Malaysia
Deep in Malaysia’s forest of Belum-Temengor, deadly snares set by poachers lie in wait for its victim, the Malayan tiger. Merapi, a senior member of our indigenous patrol team, patrols the forest on foot for hours, up to ten kilometres a day, to seek out and deactivate snares set by poachers.
Thanks to the patrols led by Merapi, active snare encounters have been reduced by 89%. But this is a stop-gap measure. Without major, imminent intervention, Malaysia’s national icon could be extinct w...

The Presence Of Tigers Is Crucial For A Healthy Fo.. 3rd Apr 2020, by WWF Malaysia
The presence of tigers is crucial for a healthy forest ecosystem, one that provides us with critical ecological services such as clean air, fresh water, climate regulation, flood mitigation, natural resources and more.
If tigers were to go extinct, the entire ecosystem would collapse. The absence of an apex predator will start a chain reaction - overpopulation of prey, which feeds on vegetation, and eventually strips the forest of cover. In time, a once healthy forest will turn into an empty on...

Today We Have Less Than 200 Wild Malayan Tigers In.. 2nd Apr 2020, by WWF Malaysia
Today we have less than 200 wild Malayan tigers in Malaysia. This is a wake up call for all of us Malaysians.
Just about half a decade ago, we had 3,000 Malayan tigers roaming in our jungles. The numbers have drastically declined within the past 10 years due to poaching activities.
If we do not act now, we may see our tiger facing the same fate as the Sumatran rhino. Make our tigers a national priority and sign the Malayan tiger pledge at wwf.org.my/TigerPledge
