Over the next month, we would like to share information about our marine and terrestrial wildlife: turtles and elephants. Marine turtles have swum in the world's oceans for over 100 million years, surviving even the demise of dinosaurs. Moreover, turtles play an important role in keeping marine ecosystems healthy; the same ecosystems that provide us our seafood; as well as sustain our ecotourism and fisheries. Bukit Piton Reforestation - A Success Story (Short Version)

Bukit Piton Forest Reserve in Lahad Datu, Sabah was recently gazetted from a Class II to a Class I Forest Reserve. This means it is now protected by law from any form of land conversion or timber exploitation, and that only environmental protection and biodiversity conservation activities are allowed in the area.
This video presents the journey of the upgrade in gazettement which was achieved with the strong collaboration and support from the Sabah Forestry Department.

Did you know that every night during turtle nesting season from April to August, a WWF-Malaysia turtle guardian is patrolling the nesting beaches from 9:00pm to 6:00am? They help ensure that nesting turtles are not disturbed, and eggs are protected in a hatchery, rather than being collected and sold in markets.
