In Peninsular Malaysia, WWF-Malaysia works with the Department of Fisheries to protect turtle eggs through constant nesting monitoring. We also work with local communities, the Turtle Guardians, to protect their local heritage.
Our collective presence prevents poachers from getting to the nests before us, resulting in a larger number of incubated eggs and hatchlings released.

It's World Environment Day today. We'd like to take this opportunity to introduce everyone to our Turtle Guardians! Who are they?
WWF-Malaysia's field biologists lead a team of people comprising of marine conservation graduate students and members of the local communities in Melaka, Sabah and Terengganu. They are fondly known as the Turtle Guardians.

Malaysia is home to four of seven existing species of marine turtles in the world. They are the Green, Hawksbill, Olive ridley and Leatherback turtles. These are now ranked from Vulnerable to Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
Thankfully we have our Turtle Guardians to help boost the number of our turtles! Who are they and what do they do? Stay tuned to learn about them as we feature their work in the following weeks!

From offering designing and printing services, they have ventured into developing a platform to inspire designers in Malaysia to share their original artworks for a potential fabrication.
