Dyk One Of The Pests To Rice Farming In Ba Kelalan.. 27th Jul 2023, by WWF Malaysia
#DYK One of the pests to rice farming in Ba’ Kelalan, Sarawak, is the golden apple snail?
Golden apple snails usually attack the paddy seedlings aged below 20 days. Destroyed seedlings mean lower rice yields. To address this without using harmful pesticides, WWF-Malaysia helped some farmers to adopt the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) method. By applying this method that plants paddy seeds on trays and controls the water level, it reduces the snail’s spread, especially to other paddy...

Rice Is Consumed At Almost Every Meal, Even Today... 27th Jul 2023, by WWF Malaysia
Rice is consumed at almost every meal, even today. It is without a doubt a staple food among Asians. Feeding Asia with rice definitely needs to be sustainable. If not, we will run out of land and rice to eat pretty quickly. And what happens then? Nature is spoiled and human well-being is affected. 🌾🍚
Our team in Sarawak has been working on sustainable rice farming in the highlands of Ba’ Kelalan for a number of years now. Recently, a cross-learning trip for farmers was held where nine...

Malayan Tigers Once Numbered 3,000 In The 1950s. T.. 24th Jul 2023, by WWF Malaysia
Malayan tigers once numbered 3,000 in the 1950s. Today, fewer than 150 individuals remain due largely to the biggest threat to our tigers – poaching.
Prior to 2016 there were only 3 teams (15 rangers). Urgent action was required to address the poaching threat. In mid-2018, WWF-Malaysia launched Project Stampede to flood the forest area with patrol teams comprising local Orang Asli trained to carry out patrols, remove snares, collect data and report poaching incidents to aid enforcement oper...

Its Globaltigerday Next Saturday. Dyk That Securin.. 22nd Jul 2023, by WWF Malaysia
It’s #GlobalTigerDay next Saturday!
#DYK that securing the future of our Malayan tigers means safeguarding our own future as well? Tigers are crucial for the health of their habitats. As top predators, tigers keep populations of prey species in check which, in turn, maintains the balance between herbivores and the vegetation upon which they feed.
In saving tigers, we also save the biologically rich and diverse forests in which they still roam. These forests are home to thousands of other s...

#DYK that the Malayan tiger is the apex predator in the Peninsular Malaysia forest? This means tigers play a key ecological role in ensuring balance in the ecosystem, such as regulating the herbivore population.
It is also known as an umbrella species because it requires a large habitat to survive. This means that when there is a healthy tiger population, a wide range of habitats inhabited by various species of wildlife are also healthy. In short, protecting the Malayan tiger and its habitat i...
