These are snares and bird traps, found not far from the Gerik-Jeli Highway which cuts across the Belum-Temengot Forest Complex, one of WWF-Malaysia's tiger research areas. Based on the size of the wire snares, it was apparent that the poachers were targeting large mammals, including tigers.

Good morning everyone! Can you tell what happened in this photo?
It was taken in 2009 in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex when a tiger decided to bite through one of our camera traps which was housed in a Pelican casing (that is actually rated as 'crush-proof')! That camera trap was hence damaged from a puncture by the tiger's canine as seen in this photo. Our biologists believe that the tiger bit the camera trap because it was curious about a foreign object in its' territory.
Accidents as th...

Now picture its underwater equivalent -- that's the #coraltriangle, a massive tropical area half the size of the United States, spanning 6 countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor Leste) and home to more marine species than anywhere else on the planet.

Tigers are an umbrella species - protecting them translates to protecting large forested habitats which we rely on for countless ecosystem services such as oxygen, water, medicinal plants, and flood mitigation. Additionally, other willdife residing within the same habitats will be protected as well.
