Often, wildlife researchers find it difficult to identify individual sun bears from their physical features, except for their distinctive patch on the animals’ chests which is often hidden as they walk on all fours. However, there’s this unique individual in Belum-Temengor which can be easily distinguished from others - its face is painted in blue!
The exact reason behind this occurrence is unknown, but it is thought that this curious bear was playing with a drum of blue paint found in one ...

This Sun Bear was discovered caught in a snare in December 2013 in Belum-Temengor. This is the second case in which WWF-Malaysia was involved in rescuing a snared animal near the Gerik-Jeli highway, after a tiger was rescued back in 2010. This shows that poaching is still a threat in the area, which is aided by easy access to the forest via the highway.

Sumatran Rhino Vanishes From Malaysian Jungles - Nation | The Star Online 21st Aug 2015, by WWF Malaysia
The Sumatran rhino is on the verge of extinction in all of Malaysia. It has gone extinct in Sarawak several decades back; most probably has gone totally extinct in peninsular Malaysia in the past decade; and is more or less extinct in the wild in Sabah.
The three rhinos being kept in captivity in Sabah were captured from the wild between 2007 and 2014, to prevent their total extinction and to breed them in captivity. These are the last three rhinos in captivity in all of Malaysia.

What's wrong with this picture?
Back in 2011, one of WWF-Malaysia's camera-traps set in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex photographed this three-legged Sun Bear, which was believed to have lost its foot to a snare.
Help us secure emergency funds for monitoring and anti-poaching efforts to prevent this from happening: http://bit.ly/malayansunbear

Orang-utans give birth to single young, or on occasion twins. After weaning at about 3.5 years of age, these youngsters become gradually independent of their mother.
They share a preference with humans for fertile alluvial plains and lowland valleys - a habitat once rich in tropical forests but is now being replaced with logging and agricultural concessions.

The Sumatran orang-utan is the most endangered of the two orang-utan species. Now found only in the northern part of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, the species is fast losing its remaining natural habitat to agriculture and human settlements.
