Mangroves protect our coastlines from storms and erosion, support livelihoods and are home to a large number of species. But they are being wiped out across the world at an alarming rate!
Belize is giving hope that this trend can be reversed. Thanks to the pressure you put on their government, they have announced stronger protection for mangroves at the fragile Belize Barrier Reef and its #worldheritage site.

Our CEO Dr Dionysius S.K. Sharma with marine biologist Oriano Migliaccio. "Thanks to WWF and the Sabah Wildlife Department, we can manage the hatchery, get tempreature logs and conduct studies," she said. The Sabah Wildlife Department and WWF gave Oriano the Best Individual Contribution to marine turtle conservation award in 2017. She works with the Pom Pom Island Resort and is originally from Italy.

Choosing plant based diets can promote environmental sustainability. An assessment by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations indicated the contribution of the livestock sector to global greenhouse gas emissions exceeds that of transportation.
Plus, plant-based meals are healthier as they are naturally lower in saturated fat and cholesterol.
Doesn't that sound like a good excuse to be adventurous and try a couple of vegetarian or vegan meals for iftar? Ulam anyone?

It's easy to buy too many things during grocery shopping especially when you're walking around in a hungry daze.
Reduce the chances of of buying food items that you already have in stock or don't actually need by keeping your fridge and cupboards organized so it is easier to see. If in doubt, always make a shopping list in advance and stick to it!

Plastic bags and Styrofoam containers may be convenient, but the price the environment pays is heavy. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year.
You can do your part to reduce plastic pollution. Always remember to bring recycle bags and reusable food containers when visiting your local Ramadan Bazaar. Every little bit helps!

Great news! The critically endangered mountain gorilla population is increasing! 👏🏼
It is the only great ape in the world known to be increasing in numbers all thanks to the tireless efforts and actions to protect the gorillas and their habitat.
However, these magnificent creatures still face threats such as snare traps, climate change, infrastructure development and diseases.
We need to continue fighting to protect our animals and their habitats.
