Caught on camera! The WWF-Malaysia team secures a camera trap to a tree at Nuluhon Trusmadi Forest Reserve. The team will return to the same location in a few months to collect the camera trap. Hopefully they will be able to capture some amazing wildlife footage to share with you!

#DYK what goes on during a wildlife survey? Among the activities carried out by the field team is the creation of a line transect which is used to determine the presence of wildlife in the area.
A line transect is a tape or string put along the ground in a straight line between two poles. Sampling is confined to organisms that are actually touching the line,
Camera traps are also installed along the transect to photograph wildlife in the area.

The WWF-Malaysia team from our Sabah office embarked on a four day wildlife survey at the Nuluhon Trusmadi Forest Reserve located in Central Sabah.
The wildlife survey is part of the ongoing Wildlife Atlas project - a resource documenting the numerous different records of wildlife species in Sabah.

#DYK that humans and orangutans share 97% of their DNA sequence? In 2016, the Bornean orangutan was classified as a critically endangered species. They face many threats; mainly the loss of habitat due to logging, mining and agriculture.

Marine turtles in Malaysia constantly face survival threats. These threats include turtle egg poaching, trade and consumption. Turtle egg poaching is banned in Sabah and Sarawak, but in Terengganu, eggs are being openly sold for consumption.

In the 1930s, years of over-cultivation and poor land management in the US Northern Great Plains saw farmland and soil literally blown away in the winds during a drought.
Fertile lands turned into desert. Today a substantial amount of global farm land is underperforming or unused - we must rehabilitate it to avoid a repeat and to absorb demand for new lands, thus reducing the pressure on native habitats and vegetation #2018WDCD
