As a follow up to yesterday's Global Tiger Day, Dr. Mark Rayan (WWF-Malaysia's Tiger Landscape Lead) was interviewed today by Juliet Jacobs on BFM 89.9.
It was a great opportunity for us to discuss how far along we've come to reaching our goal of doubling the number of tigers globally by 2022.
We also managed to shed some light on WWF-Malaysia's efforts towards preventing tiger poaching and how we're empowering local communities to aid in the protection of tigers.
Incase you missed it, here's...

Photos From WWF-Malaysia's Post 30th Jul 2018, by WWF Malaysia
In Sarawak, crocodiles are protected under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998.
But, crocodiles have an image problem with the people. To many, they are viewed as man-eaters. So, why must we protect them? Perhaps, some people might argue this issue with the conservationists.
Crocodiles should not be seen as a threat to human but more for their important roles in the river ecosystem to ensure that rivers are functioning and well-balanced. They clean up rivers as they eat carcasses of other ...

Tiger Family 27th Jul 2018, by WWF Malaysia
We are sharing never-before-seen footage of a tiger family in Sumatra!
A tigress (Rima) and her three cubs were caught on camera trap in Central Sumatra, a part of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Tiger cubs are born blind. They only gain their sight after 14 days after birth. Newborn cubs are entirely dependent on their mother for at least two months.
Ensuring that tiger landscapes are well-protected is key, if we are to ensure that tigers survive. W...

On The Brink - Shariff Teaser 27th Jul 2018, by WWF Malaysia
Poaching is the most immediate threat to tigers.
From 2016 to 2017 alone, our patrol team has found close to 250 snares across the Belum-Temengor landscape. In the long run, these snares could empty the forests of large animals.
Unfortunately, there are not enough law enforcement personnel and rangers to patrol these forests.
We urgently need to add more boots on the ground, if we want to save our Malayan tiger from extinction.

This is the iconic photo of the last tiger of Cambodia captured in 2007. Because of traps set by poachers everywhere, tigers are now functionally extinct in the country. His story is a reminder of the fight we are still battling for wild tigers against organised crime syndicates and complacency. Get connected and tell his story.
