t’s World Elephant Day! 🐘
Around 30,000 African elephants are poached every year, with illegal trade of elephant ivory at its highest level for 20 years.
We’re working to train and equip anti-poaching patrols in Africa and Asia. As well as working with governments and local communities to reduce conflict between elephants and people.

WWF-Malaysia promotes sustainable and organic rice farming method, Systems of Rice Intensification or SRI in the highland of Sarawak in collaboration with SRI Lovely and Forum Masyarakat Adat Dataran Tinggi Borneo (FORMADAT).
This initiative is supported by CIMB Islamic Bank to improve livelihood and conserve the highland forests.

WWF-Malaysia is trying to save the Malayan tiger in the Belum-Temengor forest complex. Our teams have found an increasing number of active snares and poacher camps.
"We can still save tigers by enabling more enforcement boots on the ground with the aid of the army and police, and by stepping-up intelligence on wildlife poaching and trade syndicates that lead to arrests and prosecution," said WWF-Malaysia Tiger Landscape Lead Dr Mark Rayan Darmaraj in his Sun column.

Laos government law enforcement officers have shut down illegal wildlife trade in four shops at Don Sao Market in the notorious Golden Triangle, confiscating almost 400 items during surprise raids on July 27.
"This action sends a signal, not only in Bokeo Province, but throughout the Golden Triangle and Laos, that the Government is serious about enforcing the laws that protect species such as tigers, elephants, rhinos and bears,” said Somphone Bouasavanh, Country Director, WWF-Laos.

Did you know the total number of reported rangers to have lost their lives since 2009 is 871?
However, experts believe the actual number of deaths to be much higher than the reported number.
86% of rangers surveyed think their job is dangerous due to the risks involved when encountering and confronting poachers.
Last year Rachel Katumwa was killed in the line of duty whilst on duty in Virunga National Park.

Today is #WorldRangerDay. They work grueling hours doing a dangerous and physically demanding job. They patrol the forest border and capture poachers. We honour the lives that have been lost in the line of duty.
They also help scientists carry out field work, set up camera traps and collect specimens. Currently, the Sabah state employs rangers to protect parks and forest reserves.
