This Morning Our Freshwater Team In Setiuwetlands,.. 3rd Jul 2019, by WWF Malaysia
This morning our #Freshwater team in #SetiuWetlands, #Terengganu rescued a pregnant #paintedterrapin that was caught in a fishing net called "pukat pari", while trying to get to the beach to lay its eggs.
We suspected that it had been trapped for some time as there were red marks on it, possibly from the constriction of the net. It was weak from struggling in the net, but regained its energy after the rescue and was released to a nearby river three hours later.

Insects make up a large share of species found in rainforests. Roughly 8 million ants and 1 million termites can be found in just 1 hectare of rainforest.
In fact, leaf-cutter ants are the biggest consumer of vegetation in the Amazon rainforest, despite their tiny size!

Today is #WorldRainforestDay! Rainforests are vital to life on Earth. They absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen, help stabilise the climate, are home to an incredible variety of plants and wildlife, and regulate rainfall across the globe.
But we’re losing rainforests at an unsustainable rate. Last year alone, an area of rainforest the size of Belgium was destroyed. Illegal logging, development and agriculture is pushing species like the jaguar to the brink of extinction.
