Riverbank Restoration Project In Long Semadoh 22nd Oct 2019, by WWF Malaysia
WWF-Malaysia currently undertakes a pilot riverbank restoration project which uses bio-engineering methods in Long Semadoh, Lawas – arguably could the first in Sarawak.
Supported by CIMB Islamic Bank, this project uses natural materials for live-fencings, brush walls and coconut coir geotextile mats instead of the conventional hard engineering to restore eroded riverbanks of Trusan River.

WWF-Malaysia in Sarawak is working closely with the Lun Bawang community in a quaint village, Long Langai, Ba’ Kelalan to promote sustainable farming of their fragrant Adan rice.
This sustainable rice farming using Systems of Rice Intensification (SRI), is a chemical-free method that can increase paddy yield. Indirectly, it reduces opening of more forests for rice cultivation.

This morning our #Freshwater team in #SetiuWetlands released 54 #paintedterrapins hatchlings into the river.

This freshwater #turtle species will swim to beaches to lay their eggs, but their main habitats are rivers and estuaries.

The hatchlings are only two day old, but they could crawl so quickly on land and then headed straight towards the water purely by instinct!
