Malayan Tiger Time Lapse Drawing 23rd Dec 2019, by WWF Malaysia
Last November we lost Iman, our last Sumatran rhino species in Malaysia. The hope of ever seeing that species in the wild is now forever gone.
We must work together to ensure that the same does not happen to our Malayan tigers. There are less then 200 left in the wild.

Communities from Kapit, Sarawak and Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan shared their stories through their photos in an interactive session with stakeholders. Storytelling gives communities the opportunity to keep stakeholders informed about their lifestyles, nature and challenges they face. Earlier this morning, we unveiled a new coffee table book with our guest of honour, Mr Douglas Pungga, Bukit Mabong District Officer, at SMA Creative Heritage Innovation Centre, Kuching, Sarawak.
The book entitled “Warna-Warni Borneo - Panda CLICK! Bersama Masyarakat Kapuas Hulu, Kalimantan Barat dan Kapit, Sarawak”, provides readers with photographic insights into the daily lives of rural communities from Kapuas Hulu and Kapit. This is a book by communities through their eyes and lenses.

With a heavy heart, WWF-Malaysia bids farewell to Encik Omar bin Eden, who left us on 2 December 2019.
Pak Omar (circled in white), as we fondly called him, worked with WWF-Malaysia since 2006 as a turtle guardian for the Melaka Hawksbill Turtle Conservation Project. We will greatly miss Pak Omar and his presence.
We thank you, Pak Omar, for your hard work and passion.

Bukit Piton Forest Reserve After 10 Years Of Hard .. 29th Nov 2019, by WWF Malaysia
WWF-Malaysia’s Forest Restoration Team have been hard at work at Bukit Piton for over 10 years, replanting trees at what was once a degraded area in order to ensure that the orangutans there won’t die out – a fate that would have been inevitable had they been left alone.
Today, with 2,400 hectares restored, the future is looking bright for the orangutans at Bukit Piton.

300,000 is the number of trees that we’ve planted over a 10-year period to restore the degraded forest of Bukit Piton.
Some of the trees we’ve planted include fast growing species like Laran (Neolamarckia cadamba) and Binuang (Octomeles sumatrana) as well as hardwood species like Urat mata (Parashorea sp) and Kapur (Dryobalanops sp).
Planting trees have not been without their challenges but we’ve persevered through them.

This Is Onsoi, Which Means Good In The Murut Langu.. 27th Nov 2019, by WWF Malaysia
This is Onsoi, which means “good” in the Murut language. Onsoi is a juvenile male orangutan spotted at Bukit Piton earlier this month.
To see orangutans thriving in what was previously degraded land is a sight to behold. But for the team at WWF-Malaysia, this occurrence is made even more special as Onsoi is resting on a replanted tree, a good sign that the restoration work to improve orangutan habitat at Bukit Piton has achieved its goal.

WWF-Malaysia is saddened by the death of Sabah’s last Sumatran rhino, Iman, last Saturday, 23 November 2019 at 5.35pm in Sabah.
Iman’s death signifies the complete loss of the Sumatran rhino in Sabah and in our country. The hope of ever seeing this species in the wild is now forever gone.
We must work together to ensure that what happened to our Sumatran rhinos does not happen to other critically endangered wildlife in Malaysia.
