DEAR KIDS, THANK YOU!
Over the past couple of months, we’ve been receiving donations from a group of supporters that you wouldn’t think have the resources to donate - children!
These kids with huge hearts often send us money that they get for their birthdays, or at certain times of the year they donate the money from Chinese New Year “hong bao” red packets, or Hari Raya money - and they all sign off with the same thing: "this money is all for the animals."
Each gift is a very heartwa...

SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – SUSPECTED FOUL PLAY IN PYTHON’S BRUTAL DEATH
On 28 October 2015, the ACRES Wildlife Rescue team received a call about a python at Bukit Timah Plaza. They arrived to find a young python inert on the floor, its head and body crushed, as if stomped on. Accentuating the grisly scene was a cigarette butt placed in the python’s mouth.
Do you have any information regarding this python? If so, we want to hear from you.
If this python was indeed a victim of deliberate cru...

A SHARK CAFÉ TO SAVE SHARKS?
Six years ago, our “When Sharks Die, The Oceans Die” event kicked off our ongoing campaign to end the trade in shark fin soup in Singapore, and we urged Singaporeans to do their bit to help save sharks. Sharks are, after all, vital for the survival of ocean ecosystems.
We’re delighted that over the years, many individuals and groups, including a large number of students, have been inspired to make a difference for sharks.
Recently, some National Junior Col...

ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHY: THE HIDDEN CRUELTY
Here’s a recent ACRES letter that was published in the Straits Times Forum. The letter was in response to a feature on Thailand’s Tiger Kingdom tourist attraction.
We hope that readers will think twice before paying to take their photograph with a tiger – or any wild animal- once they are aware of the cruelty behind each and every photo taken.
Please help to spread the word that animal photography is no fun for the animals. Thank you.

FROM FLOWER POTS TO TURTLE TOYS! THANK YOU, PIONEER JC STUDENTS!
Over last few weeks, students from Pioneer Junior College volunteered at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC), assisting with animal care.
One of their tasks was to create enrichment tools for the rescued pig-nosed turtles in our care. Enrichment is an essential part of everyday animal care to keep animals active, both in body and mind.
They did this by upcycling used flower pots into feeding enrichment items! Food can be h...

GUARD THE TROOP LEADER, HERD THE FAMILY AWAY!
Over the past few months, one family of macaques from the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve - the Hindhede troop - has been selected as the pilot study group for the ACRES Monkey Guards project. Past GPS collaring projects conducted by the National Parks Board (NParks) and researchers have shown that this troop's distribution range overlaps with residential houses around the perimeter of the nature reserve. Hence, this calls for a positive and modern manag...
