Slow Loris Animal Cruelty 12th Dec 2015, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
SATURDAY CRIME NIGHT – HUNTED AND DEFANGED FOR CAPTIVITY
Did you know that the slow loris - the only venomous primate - is native to Singapore? Tragically, these beautiful creatures often find themselves victims of the illegal wildlife trade, as their appealing look makes them popular as exotic pets. The demand for slow lorises as pets is one of the factors driving them towards extinction.
Here’s why slow lorises are not suitable pets:
1. They are wild animals! Keeping them in captivity pr...

NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE: 11 December 2015
Spotty is a spotted house gecko who became stuck on a glue board inside an advertisement panel. There was no way that poor Spotty could have found his/her way out without a little help. It’s thanks to the individual who called our Hotline that Spotty was saved!
Small or big, every animal’s life matters. With some tools, our rescue officers careful manoeuvred the panel to free Spotty from the glue board and get him/her out safely.

The Last Of The Pink Dolphins 9th Dec 2015, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
HONG KONG’S PINK DOLPHINS UNDER THREAT!
A few months ago, our dolphin team trained with the Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society (HKDCS) to learn more about the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, the same species found in Singapore’s waters.
Unfortunately the population isn’t doing too well in Hong Kong, as the population has plummeted from 158 in 2003 to 61 in 2014 – a 40% decline.
The BBC has written a very interesting and informative article about this – take a look!
We aim to le...

GREEN IGUANA 10-10-10-10 SADLY PASSES AWAY
10-10-10-10 was so named as he was rescued on the 10th of October 2010 at 10pm. He was a large fully-grown adult at the time of rescue, although we will never know his exact age.
He was a fit and active iguana, with his size and strength second only to Midori, who is the largest green iguana in our care. We have seen 10-10-10-10 go through many different phases – from being a sweet and curious iguana who loved morning glory to being a very temperame...

White-Bellied Sea Eagle Rescue And Release 4th Dec 2015, by Animal Concerns Research & Education Society (ACRES)
NATIVE WILDLIFE RESCUE ROUNDUP: 4 DECEMBER 2015
Last month (November), our wildlife rescue team received a call about an eagle in distress. The white-bellied sea eagle had crash landed into a canal area, and he was being pounded by a heavy flow of gushing water. Luckily, a group of teenage boys came to his aid and helped to pull him to safety. They managed to keep the eagle warm and calm by placing a shirt over him. A concerned passer-by called us for help.
The white-bellied sea eagle was not...
